Savute Safari Lodge

After a warm and welcoming greeting, we were escorted to our cabin ( # 1) at Savute Safari Lodge. It really knocked our socks off! What superlative accommodation! A huge deck with views in two direction allowed us to watch the constant gathering of animals coming to drink such as elephants, zebra and cape buffalo. We spent three glorious nights at this fabulous lodge well taken care of by Ollie, Natasha, Bujos, Taz and the rest of the marvelous Savute team. Gee, our incredible guide was most knowledgeable and used his many skills to seek out our requests. We saw everything on our wish list including leopard sightings three days in a row. Some of the rare animals we sighted were side striped jackal, hyena, wild dogs, secretary birds, tsessebe and water bucks. I could go on and on.
The meals were excellently prepared with a huge variety of dishes to keep every one happy. The warm and friendly staff went out of their way to assure that any one with special food requirements were met. The staff even sang and danced for us and again I was blown away by their musical talent.
I rated the sleep quality low only because of the constant animal noises outside our room every night..... but that is the charm of Africa. It was simply a wonderful experience and one I will not forget soon. Another fabulous Desert/Delta success.

Many thanks for your kind review of Savute Safari Lodge and more so, of the one thing that we work so hard at, our staff. It is always rewarding to our team to see that travelers have made mention of them - this is hugely motivating. We are very pleased that you had a good stay with us and felt and saw the magic of Savuti!! We are also sorry that the night sounds robbed some sleep from you, but in the big picture, that also adds to the excitement of staying in such a wild place. We look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to Savute Safari Lodge at some time in the future - Many thanks and warm safari greetings, Obie, Angie, Ollie, Natasha, Bujos, Taz, Gee and the SSL team!!

Our 3 nights at Savute Safari Lodge in mid March 13 were the highlight of the 3 camps we visited in Botswana (Linyanti Bush Camp,Savute & Pom Pom) & our time in Kruger. Would not say it has an intimate feel but it certainly has a friendly & welcoming feel due to the great team which run it. The animals also seem to like the area & with the guides in constant contact with each other they know where to go so you can see the animals. If you don't enjoy yourself here then you are not trying. We don't need to go into too much detail as plently of others have detailed their great experiences at Savute. Just suggest you don't tell too many people what you have read about it otherwise it will always be booked out .

We chose Savute Safari Lodge as it is smack bang in the middle of the Savute section of Chobe National Park. It did not disappoint one bit. The accomodation is absolutely stunning - with a lounge and a massive balcony. Lovely and clean, lion embroidery on the linen. The bathroom was very nice and spacious. The evening meals were eaten outside overlooking the waterhole. We sat for hours watching all the animals come and go from the waterhole. There were baby elephants, a male impala chasing a female around the waterhole for hours, kudu, buffalo and even 2 wild dogs that lay by the water for 9 hours one day.
On a game drive we saw 2 leopard cubs. The female posed for us on a sandhill for about 10 minutes. Then we saw her and her brother playing. To get so close to these animals is wonderful. When we thought it couldn't get any better we bumped into a pride of 12 lions!! Wow! There was nearly a standoff between one female lion and the mother of the leopard cubs. The leopard was distressed and calling for her cubs. When we got back to camp after this wonderful drive we told the staff (who are always waiting for us waving with smiles and cold towels) what we saw and said we still want to see wild dogs. They said we were in luck as they were at the camp!
After seeing all this our expectations were so high but the following day we saw the same pride of lions again with one cub holding a zebra leg in it's mouth. There wasn't much left of the poor zebra at that stage.
On our final night a hyena walked into camp while we were eating dinner. Leopard footprints were also found in camp. And the poor old buffalo hangs around the camp each night to keep away from predators.
Wonderful place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that overlooks the waterhole as not all rooms overlook the water.

Thank you very much for your great review of Savute Safari Lodge. We are delighted that you had a wonderful stay with us and are very pleased that your safari experiences will be ones to remember. Indeed it appears that this year is going to be a good one for predator viewing in the Savuti area as the lion prides are all producing young at an alarming rate. Many thanks as well for your kind mention of our staff - our teams at the camps and lodges are always greatly motivated by such positive feedback from our travelers. With warm safari greetings, Obie, Angie and the Savute Safari Lodge team.

Savute Safari Lodge offers the ultimate game viewing experience. Our guide Baba managed to show us more animals than we have ever seen in one area before. Added to this the lodge itself offers excellent accommodation and meals. Our hostess Anjera was charming and I liked the way she was to be found everywhere helping the chefs, the waitresses and getting involved in all aspects of lodge life but still having time to interact with her guests. The last time we were at Savute the river in front of the lodge was dry. Heavy rainy seasons have brought the river back and it's exciting watching the animals coming to drink as you sip your cocktail or enjoy breakfast on the deck.

Wonderful staff make this luxury lodge Michelle and Mc run it brilliantly.
Having stayed at okuti and la roo la tau expectations were very high and savuti exceed them on all counts.
Stayed 3 nights in chalet 8 which is closest to the borehole providing non stop wildlife entertainment all day and interesting sounds at night.
Game drives produced all we could have hoped for the big five in big numbers as well as some rare sights such as sable and our guide baba was fantastic.
Food also great but not the singing you get at other lodges and score the batman always remembered what you wanted. GO!

Room Tip: Chalets 7 & 8 are closest the borehole and river Chanel.

Savute Safari Lodge is a wonderful place. The cabins are clean, well-decorated, and well-appointed with a large en suite bathroom with toiletries, sofa, mosquito netting over the comfy beds, and a huge deck to watch the elephant watering hole. The bar is always open and there is a reading library and a pool. MC and Michelle, and all the staff at Savute, are wonderful hosts. Several of us had a little too much good South African wine at the delicious dinner and decided to stay up till the wee hours at the fire pit. MC and Michelle joined us (as did some of the guides) for a memorable evening and walked us to our cabin afterwards. The game drives were excellent with many animals and very knowledgeable guides. A highlight was seeing the African Wild Dogs, including several new puppies. There are too many elephants visiting the watering hole to count, but it never got old seeing them. One day I skipped a game drive and sat on my deck with binoculars enjoying the sights and sounds of our elephant visitors. Laundry was complimentary and very efficient. My only regret is that I didn't spend another night--two days was too short!

Savute Safari Lodge provides an intimate safari experience, where guests feel at home. The rooms are great, and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you are lucky enough to have one of the two rooms in front of the Elephant water hole you will have a close up and personal elephant experience that is truly amazing. from memory these are rooms 6 and 7 (but check when booking).
We also had a fantastic guide (Babba) who actually tracked the animals, and we managed to see 4 of the Big 5 within our first two game drives. The animals in Savute are easily spotted, and the guides manage to get you really close - this has not been our experience in other locations.
Savute was fantastic, and I would highly recommend the Lodge as a must do safari experience in Botswana.

Room Tip: Visit during the off peak season (December) - the weather is great, the grass is lush and green, and...
