“Savute - in new gloom”
Reviewed November 17, 2011

I haven´t been to the Savute area for almost 3 years and always avoided the area, as I remember it as dry and arid, with little good game viewing. This winter (Sep 2011) I went on a self drive tour and was gobsmacked by how the area had changed since the channel has started to flow again two years. It was better than anything else I had seen in the Delta. We saw simply hundreds of elephants with tiny calves on the Savute Marsh,Lions, Wild Dogs, Clip Springers, Leopards, Giraffe and the usual suspects... It was amazing and I would go back in a heartbeat and every since build the area into every itinerary I can. However it may be remarked that the area can get quite busy with cars and visitors, due to being public and not on a private concession.

“Wet Savute and loads of elephants”
Reviewed September 15, 2011

We visited the normally dry Savute in August of 2011 to find that the river was full for the first time in 30 years. This did not hinder the game viewing although there were a few roads that were flooded and some of the camps were flooded.
The highlight of the game viewing was multiple herds of elephants, a group of huge kudu bulls, and leopard stalking frankolin.
Plenty of wildlife to see at least this year.
