Staff here are outstanding. From the first greeting with Petra to the laughs around the dinner table and open fire at night as ours guides share their stories and experiences. Semik, well we can not say enough about this man's abilities, knowledge and thoughtfulness. Thank you so much for the experience. The Chobe is a must, the amount of wildlife we encountered was unbelievable.

I was surprised just how nice this lodge was. The traveller photos did not quite do it justice - the views were spectacular.

The food was good, the rooms were good, and the service was good, and the guides were good. The lodge has only a limited number of guests so you get a very exclusive intimate experience.

You should stay for 2-3 days. If you can afford to 3 days gives you a more relaxed visit, but ultimately you can get everything done in 2 days.

They took us to the local village and school on our last day which was also a lot of fun.

Muchenje Lodge is a warm, welcoming, and very friendly safari lodge located in the forest reserve close to Chobe National Park. I spent 4 nights there in late June, and only wished that I would have had another four. Much of the credit goes to Kathy, the on-site manager, who assures that the wishes of all the guests are realized.
The chalets at Muchenje are spotless, ensuite of course, and comfortably furnished. Food is excellent and there is plenty of it for even the hungriest safari-goer.
Muchenje's friendly staff and excellent guides deserve a note of thanks for the high standards of their performance.
But it is the wildlife that is the glory of Muchenje! I have previously been on safaris in both southern and eastern Africa, but I have never seen wildlife in such numbers as I did along the Chobe floodplain just below Muchenje Lodge. Elephants in their hundreds file down to the river in late afternoon, matriarchs, adolescents and babies, come down in single file, cross the road and proceed to the water, often after wallowing in the mud, all of which provides fascinating viewing and countless photo-ops. But Chobe is not just elephants, but large numbers of zebras, giraffes, buffalo, kudu, impala, and even lions and other predators, along with a superabundance of bird life, and hippos and mammoth crocodiles which can be enjoyed on the all-day game drive which includes a few hours on a boat on the Chobe River itself.
I have only superlatives for Muchenje, and for Chobe, and Botswana.
For a true, stimulating and memorable safari experience, visit Botswana's Chobe National Park and stay at Muchenje Safari Lodge. Like me, you will probably be glad you did and sad to leave such an evocative destination.

The lodge itself is lovely, managing to be cozy and classy and rustic all at the same time. Individual cabins have privacy and their own decks looking out onto the bush and river below. Good food and friendly staff. But we're here for the wildlife, right? The lodge's tiered Land Rovers will take you deep into Chobe National Park. We'd already seen the Big 5 and much more at Notten's in Sabi Sands, but this was a totally different experience. Most of the animals were in groups, including elephants (so many!), buffalo, zebra, antelope, warthogs,hippos...plus of course giraffes, colorful birds, and a solitary lioness. The river cruise brings you close to hippos, crocs and water birds, and we had the great luck to be among a herd of bull elephants swimming across the river. Jaw-droppingly amazing, all of it!

Room Tip: All cabins seem to be equal. If you have mobility issues, ask for a cabin closer to the main lodge...

The atmosphere, the views, the staff, the guides, the food -- everything was fantastic! I definitely recommend this lodge for anyone considering a safari in Chobe National Park, Botswana. This was our first trip to Botswana and first time on safari, so we didn't quite know what to expect. The three days we spent there exceeded our expectations. The sightings on our game drives (early morning, afternoon, nighttime) and on a morning boat trip were beyond what we we would see -- elephants, buffaloes, zebras, lions, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, hyena, baboons, etc. -- a special thank you to our guide, Ocean.

Muchenje really has the "Wow" factor from the moment you arrive and see that view! We were made to feel at home right away by the relief Manager Cathy who was the perfect host throughout our stay. Accommodation is very comfortable and all rooms have a great view. There are several nice areas to sit and they have a small waterhole below the lodge where we watched Water Buck, Impala, Warthog and Zebra. Food was very enjoyable and all homemade. We enjoyed homemade soups each evening and lovely roasts such as fillet of beef and leg of lamb both excellent. This place has the feel of a house party, helped by the socialising with lodge staff and guides in the evening. It was great fun listening to their tales especially Ocean who was a great raconteur and Peter who told us about local life. But it was our personal guide, Synack who brought Africa to life for us. His knowledge of all things Botswanan was amazing. We saw so much wildlife on all our activities but the best day was the full day which included a lovely boat trip on the Chobe river. We saw many Elephants by and in the river including a large one that swam across completely submerged except for using its trunk as a snorkel. Good sightings of Hippo and large Crocodiles, Beautiful birds, Water Monitors etc... etc... and had lunch on the boat in the company of Elephants. We had surprises and new sightings each time we went out even if it was walking to dinner from our Bungalow when we saw Slender Mongoose, Small Spotted Genet and numerous colourful birds. All in all I think Muchenje is a great first place to stay before venturing into the Okavango Delta. We saw larger groups of animals here than we did in the Delta and some very special Antelope including Puku, Roan and Sable. Thanks to all at Muchenje for a memorable stay, Mandy, Louis and Fiona.

From the moment you are greeted by hosts, Robert and Joy, you know you are in for a special experience. This is a wonderful safari lodge where everyone is made to feel welcomed.
The accommodations are very comfortable, each with a small patio with panoramic views overlooking the river and the wildlife. Our guide Lips was personable, friendly and most importantly knowledgeable about the animals and their habitat. The main lodge was a wonderful setting to enjoy dinner, drinks and conversation. What made the lodge outstanding was Robert and Joy's ability to share their love of Africa with their guests. Their attention to detail was the best we have experienced. We would love to have them as guests at a dinner party as they were such an interesting couple. And the game drives were great-huge herds of elephants, giraffes, stalking lions and so much more.

Room Tip: Stay there. All rooms share the view.
