In the mid 70's I was working in RSA for a couple of years but took my late wife up to Victoria Falls and then to the lodge. Obviously things may have changed but from the recent reviews published here it appears that the lodge has got even better because when we visited it was superb, friendly staff and fellow guests, fantastic game drives and boat cruises and great food,

Still check out the movies and photographs and the room key ( room 204 ) hangs on my wall. The wife found it in her luggage when we returned to the UK.

I would recommend that anyone thinking of going to Africa who likes staying in beautiful hotels but also wishes to see some magnificent views of wild life should put Chobe Game Lodge at the top of the list.

Even Richard Burton and Liz Taylor stayed there when they married for the second time.

Room Tip: We had a room with its own plunge pool which was great but all of the roomes overlook the river

Dear Sir,

We are very grateful for the kind message. Indeed there is a passionate, dedicated team here and our location inside the Chobe National Park situated along the Chobe River is quite special. Game viewing is world-class and the lodge itself still maintains that classic allure from years gone by.

We hope to welcome you back to experience it again. Many thanks for the recommendation! Warm wishes, Chobe Game Lodge Team

A delightful experience was enjoyed here. From the moment that we saw a leopard within one minute of our first game drive the animal and bird viewing was outstanding. Having been to several game parks in Africa this is certainly amongst the best. The staff and guides couldn't have done more for us, and helped to make it a memorable experience.

What a lovely experience. Chobe is elephant central and as we were to find out, giraffe central as well.
The lodge is an older property but well maintained with a fabulous aspect over the river and flood plains. The new elevated boardwalk is a great addition and gives some nice viewing opportunities.
The Chobe team are just great, front of house, f&b and safari teams were universally a cheerful and happy group. We had a birthday and the cake and singing and dancing made it a very special and memorable experience. We enjoyed a breakfast cruise which was just a beautiful way to spend the morning. I highly recommend an outing with DK on the water if you can manage it – very knowledgeable, keen and relaxed captain.
The safari team work hard to track and spot but compared with a private game park there is a greater reliance on getting lucky with some of the predators being near the roads or the water. That is why you go to Chobe for the elies, giraffe, buffalo etc although we did manage to find and stay with 3 different lionesses.
Rooms are comforatable and lovely balcony and outlook - animals on property are fun.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and Chobe Game Lodge experience with the Tripadvisor community. We sincerely appreciate it.

Chobe National Park is indeed a special park for abundant population of ‘Ellies’, plenty giraffes not to mention some great cat sightings recently too.
Great game viewing is an indispensable ingredient for a truly memorable safari experience. It is wonderful to hear that during your stay with us you
enjoyed the national park experience. Our guides are very proud and eager to share the layout of our home country’s beauty with our guests in the
best possible way in order for them to take home the most wonderful memories. We strive to give our guests the best experience, exceptional
service and special memories during their stay with us.

Once again thank you for your review - we will be sharing your thoughts with DK and the rest of the team at Chobe Game Lodge.

Aside from what has already been written, my experience at Chobe was fully enhanced by the staff. Johan and Maggie are the most visible, but spending time with some of the others more fully enhanced my time. Johan has implemented a full eco program for the lodge, Maggie has a smile and somehow remembers and greets everyone by name. Modibu did a great job on the safaris. She took the time to explain things as if they were the first time.

I also had the experience of spending a couple of hours on the boat with a few terrific employees who most likely never get credit for making Chobe Game Lodge a great choice. D.K. was my boat driver and we had Tumi & Mytie on board as well. What a relaxing and pleasant time we had going up the Chobe River as I got to learn more about the people and culture of Bostwana from these three special women!

Everything else at Chobe is very good, the rooms, the food, the amenities, etc. While a different experience than other lodges it is well worth the experience.

Chobe Game Lodge is the only hotel located within the National park. This makes it convenient for safaris since you just drive off the hotel grounds and start your safari... no need to transport to the park first! The Game Lodge is very luxurious in the common areas, amenities, services but the rooms are a bit out-dated. It's been around for awhile after all!

First, the welcome --> amazing! They greet you on arrival and take your luggage, welcome you with drinks, and go over your itineraries! The Game Lodge is all inclusive so your meals are all included, and your safari drives and cruises too! Before arrival, I was worried that I'd had to fight for a reservation on arrival on a game drive, but they actually schedule it all for you and they really pack it in! They start with the 5:30 AM game drive, then a 10 AM cruise, and then lunch and a 3:30 afternoon game drive. (All game drives need to be finished before the sun sets per park guidelines). For our 2.5 days there, they scheduled us on 4 safari drives and a cruise. We ended up canceling the last one in the morning because we had a 40hr transit back to the US and didn't want to be exhausted. More on the drives later....

The rooms --> again, a bit dated but very nice. No bed nets and there are mosquitos but the rooms are air-conditioned. We had brought our own bed nets anyway so we set them up --> not sure if we would have gotten bitten without them. They do a turn down service and leave you chocolates --> nice finishing touch.

The grounds --> absolutely amazing! Right on the water with decks that go out so you can see the elephants bathing or the hippos! It's right in the national park so you see animals all the time, and they're everywhere right after you leave the hotel grounds.

The safari drives --> the best! Chobe is quite concentrated so you start seeing animals immediately on the drives! You see TONS of elephants of course, but we actually saw 4 of the big 5 (elephants, lions, buffalo, and the elusive leopard). We were very excited about seeing a leopard both sleeping high up in the tree (visible through binoculars and camera zoom as well) but also getting a chance to see a leopard walk right past us in the safari car later on! We saw tons of other animals --> eagles, impala, kudu, giraffes, hippo, etc and lots of baby animals (giraffes, impalas, elephants). You're with the same guide the whole time you're there which is also great since she knows what you have or have not seen.

The extras --> food is OK, not stellar but good enough. EVERYTHING is included, including free laundry!

A bonus for the feminists --> our guide (female) told us that the Game Lodge only hires female guides because all the other companies won't hire women. As a statement, the Lodge has an all-female safari guide team... and I think that rocks! I can't believe the other safari companies are so narrow-minded!!!!

Thank you so much for posting this great review.

We are pleased about your positive comments regarding our activities and how it is
organised and along with our fantastic setting. It seems like you really had
a good time and we are glad you did.

Just to note that despite having no mosquito nets we have window meshing, repellent spray and scented body lotion that keeps mosquitos at bay.
Our Chobe Angels as we call our Lady Guides, are our pride and they always
go above and beyond to make our guests feel great. Our aim was to help create awareness and we are glad to start seeing more women in guiding roles throughout Botswana.

Once again thank you for your honest feedback we appreciate this as it will help us keep
continuing to strive for perfection in guest experience.
Our warm regards, Chobe Team

The lodge is one of the best places I was at while in Africa. Service is top notch. The buffet is scrumptious. We went on the cruise and it was just as good. I wish we would have seen more animals than we did, but they just weren't out at the time. Definitely worth going to.

With the Chobe Game Lodge we left behind the luxury 'tents' and entered the building. It's not an hotel, it's more than that. The staff was so welcoming, affable, cooperative, helpful, organised, pleasant, I've run out of adjectives. The accomodation was superb and the food to match. Back in cell phone contact to let our families know we hadn't been eaten. The Chobe Angel guides were excellent within the limits of the Park. But when we looked back at what we saw we were amazed at the range of species. The boat safaris were excellent and we loved the animals coming down to the water. The skyscapes at sunset were superb.

We wold like to thank you for this kind review. Many of our guests tell us it feels more like joining a large family for a few days rather than simply staying at a lodge. It is also nice to connect with the family by phone or email after a few days disconnected from the world in our remote camps and lodges in Botswana. On behalf of all of us here at the lodge we hope to welcome you here again one day in the future!
