“Best place in Chobe Park”
Reviewed August 23, 2011

The lodge is the only accommodation right inside Chobe National Park and their service is exceptional. You feel like a celebrity, they pay so much attention to every guest. Every staff member at the Lodge has a smile and goes out of their way to make your stay fabulous. The food was wonderful, both in variety as well as quality and presentation. One evening was set-up as a BBQ party with music by the river- just lovely.

There are several daily games drives as well as boat trips down the Zambezi River. We never expected to see that many elephants and hippos. Our guide Obi was wonderful and made our entire stay especially delightful.

We saw a pride of lions, 500+ elephants, some right outside the lode. The lodge also has warthogs and mongoose right on their ground. This is nice for kids and who knew that warthogs can jump a 5 foot wall? The lodge has an enormous pool table. Probably the largest pool table I've ever seen.

My only regret was that we had to leave paradise.

We stayed two nights, went on an afternoon game drive after arriving, morning and late afternoon drives the next day (also boat trip on the Zambezi in afternoon) and another game drive the morning we would be leaving. Vehicles were well-maintained, and driver and spotters were good. We saw many animals, had great experiences. Accommodations were good, food was exceptional - much variety. I highly recommend Chobe Game Lodge. Note - mornings, especially if not summer season, can be unexpectedly cool!

We had an absolutely great four nights at Chobe Game Lodge. The lodge itself is in the middle of Chobe National Park, so you will be surrounded by wildlife even when not on game drives. Within 20 minutes of checking in we had 5 elephants grazing less than 200 feet from our balcony (thankfully separated by a fence!). The game drives were great as well. The guides are very helpful and knowledgeable and make the experience even better. Food and service at the lodge was above and beyond what I could have expected. This is place to stay in Chobe.

As part of a two week safari adventure across Africa this was our third stop & a change from being under canvas. We received a fantastic warm welcome from Maggie & staff on arrival after a long & exhausting trip from Kenya. As well as being upgraded to a suite we were treated to a surprise dinner for two on our terrace with singing by the staff ~ an unforgettable birthday surprise. Accommodation was luxurious, service & food were faultless. Our guide Lynn & trainee Neo were both courteous & amusing during our several forays into the bush & on the River Chobe. The birdlife & animals are plentiful, the guides knowledgeable & helpful. Unfortunately we did not see any big cats or rhino but this cannot be guaranteed. Elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra & crocodiles abound in great numbers, attracted to the waterside. Sundowners in the bush or on the water ended the safaris perfectly. Thank you to Desert & Delta Safaris for the organisation, impeccable timing of transfers & the knowledge we were in safe hands. A superbly memorable experience.

Room Tip: Most rooms overlook the River Chobe with views across the grounds. Our suite 205/206 provided excell...

Every moment of our time in Botswana was great. From the smiles and meaningful welcomes at immigration through the welcome from the chirpy and effervescent Guest Relations Manager, Maggie, to our wonderful guide Chipo, and not forgetting the fantastically high count of animals, everything surpassed our expectations.

The Chobe Game Lodge is more a hotel than a lodge, but this added to the feeling of a high-class holiday, rather than staying at a true lodge, which might feel too informal and less of a significant event?

The staff were friendly and intelligent, with excellent English. True, some were trainees, but generally they could not do enough for us, even when there was confusion over meeting times for a river cruise, they got out another boat and ferried us out to the original boat that had already left. Sometimes you did notice an "extra" juice added to your chit, but our view was that the staff can't be on much money so that extra juice for their break was no care of ours seeing as it was AI and we weren't paying for it!

Another great service was the Free (Inclusive) Laundry service – the only one we have come across in our holidays ever, much appreciated! Rooms were well decorated with a nice bathroom - not your Ritz or Raffles, but still a good state.

The food at the lodge was always of high quality and being all inclusive, there was always so much, and with at least 3 mains each meal, there was something for all palates. Sometimes we missed lunch to ensure that we enjoyed dinner all the more! We especially enjoyed the Boma Barbecue, as we made sure that we covered ourselves with insect repellent – in fact we did not get bitten in Zimbabwe or Botswana at all, only in Mauritius!

The Resort was about 75% full, and everyone seemed to be very happy with the facilities.

The shear abundance of animals was surprising, and perhaps it has given us a slightly false view of the definition of “safari” as we may be disappointed in future if we do not see such a high density on another Safari. This was demonstrated even before we arrived at the Chobe Game Lodge: the transfer from the border was in a safari truck, and almost as soon as we entered the National Park, wildlife was apparent: Monitor lizards, Impala, Kudu, Hippo and a herd of Elephant. The latter being the cause of a curious event. An Italian couple were being transferred with us and the woman got rather agitated at the closeness of the Elephants as she apparently had Pachydermopohobia! Now both my wife and I had to seriously question the sanity of coming to Chobe if you have a fear of Elephants!

As a couple, we appeared to be lucky charms for the Safari Drives: We saw the first pack of Wild Dogs for 3 months and the first herd of Zebra for 6 months. In fact about the only larger animal that is native to that area of the park that we did not see was a leopard (one to come back for!). Our guide Chipo was very informative and had a fantastic eye for catching glimpses of animals that us mere mortals would have missed. She was driving along at about 30 kmph when she suddenly hit the brakes, and went into reverse about 10 metres. “Has anyone a pair of binoculars or zoom lens?” she said pointing to a tree about 40 metres distant. “Train them on a branch about half way up.” We all looked and still not seeing anything, we asked her what to look for. “Is that a snake?” she asked. I was still struggling to see it, until I noticed it move slightly. Indeed it was a Southern African Rock Python, posing as a branch of a tree. She ensured that we saw some fantastic sights such as a Hippo up close, Giraffes trying to cross the river, the whole pride of 11 lions in the area, and hundreds of wonderful Elephants. Chipo and a colleague even joined us for dinner on our last night at the Lodge.

All in all, very highly recommended.

My husband and I recently visited Chobe Game Lodge for two days and looked for something different and unique. The food, staff, accommodation, views and everything about this beautiful lodge was absolutely stunning and worth every penny. Last but not least, my sincere thanks to the guides who made this experience even more memorable. We have travelled extensively through Africa and the world, and if we have the opportunity again, will definitely return. Well done Chobe Game Lodge!!!!!
