“"There's so much room for activities!"”
Reviewed January 11, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for one night in jan 2013. It's definitely the closest place you can stay to the Caverns. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, check in and check out. The rooms are huge!! We had a double bed room and there was still room for cartwheels! (If one were so inclined.) The beds were comfy and we had no problem staying warm. Breakfast in the AM was a carton of OJ or coffee and muffins. There was a fun looking small waterpark that looks like it'd be a blast in the summer. My only complaint was that its a little on the pricy side for a small hotel, but definitely a good value for how remote of a location and proximity to the park. Stars at night at gorgeous, but you may have to drive out of the parking lot for a good view.

Were there at veterans`day. Paid 85.49 $.
Room was very clean and staff very friendly, but no breakfast.
The environment is very nice and the sunrice was great. No noise at all and the shortest way to carlsbad caverns. At least a little bit overpriced.
P.S. entree to the caverns at veterans`day is free.

I ended up at Rodeway Inn after every acceptable hotel in Carlsbad ended up fully booked when I arrived in town! In the end, this turned out to be a good thing. Rodeway Inn was perfectly fine and comparatively better-located. It's nothing special, but it's relatively clean, quiet, and since every hotel in Carlsbad is extraordinarily overpriced, it's not like you could find a better deal* anywhere nearby. Breakfast is somewhat lacking: just coffee, OJ, and prepackaged tiny muffins - so you may want to plan ahead if you need more than that.

* You can certainly find cheaper options in Carlsbad, but after checking out one such hotel I decided it was worth paying the $90+ dollars that the "better" (read: acceptable) hotels were charging.

I overlooked all the negative reviews and stayed here due to the location. I was pleasantly surprised that the property was not anything like the negative reviews. Our room,126, was large, clean and comfortable. We (my wife and I) only stayed 1 night but would have been happy to stay there longer if our plans called for it. I really don't understand the anger and disappointment that was reported. Those wishing to stay near the Caverns can't go wrong staying here.Staff was friendly and cooperative. Just wish the restaurant nearby was open-would have saved an 18 mile drive to Carlsbad which wasn't that bad of a drive.

Room Tip: No fitness center or room service.

This hotel has a great location and allowed me the time to drive to the Caverns and make it through the caves, return to the hotel to rest for a bit, and return for the flight of the bats. Also, its location shaved a solid 30 min off my trip from the caverns down to El Paso.

The hotel itself is your run-of-the-mill inn/motel. If you are looking for a really nice place with a very nice room, go to Carlsbad itself. However, if you are looking for a place to stay near to the Caverns, this is your place.

We stayed here two nights. The night before my husband climbed Guadalupe Peak and the night he climbed the peak. It is the closest place to stay other than camping in the park. We also went ahead and went up to Carlsbad Caverns to watch the bats fly out. We had already been in the caverns before. A lot of the rooms in the inn have been renovated and they were working on updating others while we were there in September 2012. Our room was nicely renovated and clean. The main problem with Whites City is that it closes down early. The restaurant was closed before we got back from watching the bats, but we had gone to the grocery store to find food to heat up. On Sunday night we drove into the city, but restaurants were still hard to find. Several were closed on Sunday and some were even closed on Saturday and Sunday. So, be prepared to plan your meals so you do not go hungry. Sitting outside our motel room, we saw bats flying and some deer. We also saw some birds that we are guessing were night hawks, so it was enjoyable outdoors. Both women at the front desk of the motel were very nice, friendly, and helpful. We noticed both nights that people coming down from the caverns to watch the bats fly were stopping at the inn for a room. Because some were closed for renovating and even though it was off season, they actually had to turn people away as they were full. It would be best to call ahead of time until the updating is finished. The continental breakfast is definitely continental. It consisted of coffee, orange juice, and a blueberry muffin.

after reading all the reviews, I thought this place would not be TOO bad but it was! We didn't have tissue paper and I had to go to the front desk. then we needed ice. I looked up and down the whole complex and found one ice machine that never worked. I had to go back to the front desk where they said "oh we have ice in here". then at 10pm on Sunday night, I was going to take a shower. Turned on the hot water and nothing. Kept turning and turning the knob but nothing. Turned on the cold water and rusty water came out! gross! then I was hoping it would get warmer but it never did. Our tub didn't have a stopper so we had to use a towel shoved in the drain and then had to put warm water in the ice bucket from the sink to fill the tub about 2 inches so that my 4 year old son could take a bath. When I told the front desk in the morning, they didn't really respond at all. We were supposed to stay another night but there was no way I wanted to so we left! They claimed this room has been used lately but I don't see how. The water park wasn't working and it was 95 degrees out. The ONLY redeeming factor is that it is so close to the caverns. We were able to see the caverns, go back to the hotel to sleep for a few hours, then go back for the bat flight.
