We stayed here one night to visit the Cavern, because we did not want to drive back and forth from Carlsbad. It worked out well for that purpose

We had a room with one king size bed on the second floor. The room was very large, could have fit another king size bed in it with room to spare, so there was a lot of empty floor space. It also had a cathedral ceiling, making it seem even more spacious.

Mattress was firm, but comfortable. The room was pretty dark and quiet. Window had a vinyl room darkening curtain behind a decorative sheer, so most outside light was blocked out. The A/C unit was kind of noisy, but only in the bathroom area, a wall kept it from being noticeable in the sleeping area, much better than the window units that many motels have.

The room was clean and everything was in good condition, except there was a little mildew on the caulk in the tub. It looked like maybe they had renovated everything except the tub?

The breakfast was packaged muffins, coffee, and orange juice that you pick up at the office and take back to your room. But they did not advertise that there was any breakfast at all, so this was a nice bonus.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have cathedral ceilings.

I spent one night at this joint on March 24, 2012. My original reservation was for four nights. That alone pretty much tells the story. My experience, in no particular order of importance, was as follows:

1) when I arrived the staff person on duty was polite, sympathetic and completely unhelpful;
2) the AC in my room was not up to the task of cooling the room (my car thermometer said it had been 93 degrees that day, I can only imagine what the conditions might have been on a truly hot day). As a result the room was uncomfortably warm and the air was stale. Since the only window in the room was made to be unopenable, there was no way to get decent air inside;
3) there was a large discoloration spot in the carpet;
4) the pool was empty; and,
5) I had left my cell phone at home and needed to make a few long distance calls. There was no long distance service available on the hotel phone system. Staff informed me that "something had happened" to the service a few months prior and the owner was "trying" to get it restored.

Don't stay here. It's worth the time to drive the 12 miles up to Carlsbad (which is booming and has numerous hotels) and get a decent place to stay. If Carlsbad is full, camp out or sleep in your car.

Room Tip: There is no fitness center or room service.

First of all, this place is the same as the placed rated #3, the White's City Cavern Inn; the listings should be merged. At this point, there is only one hotel in White's City, and it's currently this Rodeway Inn. White's City is slowly being rebuilt after having been sold (yes, the whole tiny town) by White's descendants a few years back. Right now, there's a charming post office, gift shop, gas station, restaurant, public bathroom, and the potential and buildings for lots more. It's a strange, intriguing spot with an old-West ghost-town feel (at least in winter, when we visited). It was a miniresort years back, and this inn still has a mini waterpark attached to it that apparently is open to all guests in season. So ... as noted, the motel is dated and minimalist by today's standards, but the rooms are also very large and perfectly comfortable. All open to the outdoors. We were told that many rooms are currently being refurbished--I assume we had an unfurbished room, but am not sure! Was surprised to see the bathtubs had whirlpool jets. Mattresses were very firm. Breakfast was drinks, muffins, and fruit, and you take it outside or back to your room. Great view of the stars in the southwestern sky out behind the motel. Can't get any closer to Carlsbad Caverns, which was our goal; we were fine with staying here rather than farther away in Carlsbad. NB: if you are heading southwest to El Paso, be sure to get gas in White's City; you won't get another chance for a very long time!

My Very Good rating is based upon the intent of what a Rodeway is meant to be. A travelers rest stop without the bells and whistles of a full service hotel. If you want that then pay the bigger bucks. If you want a clean, comfortable room for a night and want it at a fair rate then this will be just the thing. Very close to CCNP so you can make the most of a day visit there.

We wanted to visit the Carlsbad Caverns and this motel is near the entrance which is very convenient. But is it very (too) basic. Rooms are large and the area is quiet. Bed and shower are OK. On the other side there is no fridge, no safe, no wifi and the TV is old. Avoid a room with connecting doors, you can hear everything through them.
Breakfast is free, but not more than some muffins so we went somewhere else for breakfast. In the evening this place is deserted. I guess next time, we will stay at Carlbad. A little further away but more choices.

The Rodeway Inn in White's "City"has one huge, undeniable virtue. It is the first place to lay your head after the winding drive down from the caverns. It is a bit scruffy in places, but the generously sized room was adequate for our overnight stay. The fuzzy TV reception and the one working ice machine were a little annoying but nothing to scream about.The main concern of ours was the dining choices or, should I say, the lack thereof. The grocery store across the street in a complex with a silly pseudo Western town motif had virtually nothing that didn't need can opener to access. Luckily, the town's one restaurant assured us that they would still be open after the Bat Flight program. (Which, I should say, is an amazing unforgettable experience.) The food was plain, hearty and just what we were looking for after a long day of hiking and exploring. However, no beer or wine are served. One needs to stock up in El Paso for adult beverages.

Big room. Bit on dark side because small windows. Beds were good and the room was clean. Wifi worked very well, but no fridge or MW. Icemachine was broke so we had to collect ice from the lobby area. Even mid october we had 92F. Pool area was open and good enough. We stayed several times in Carlsbad before and just thought to try Whites City because we wanted to see the bats fly out and it's just 7 miles from Whites City to the amphitheater at Carlsbad Caverns NP. We would stay again.
