The Cliff Lodge was one of the 7 guest houses where have stayed in during our honeymoon last November/December. However the other lodges where also very good, the Cliff Lodge was excellent! Gideon, Gill and Nico made us feel very welcome and did everything to make our visit to The Kelders one to remember. Only the best is good enough for them, and it shows!
The Cliff Lodge is situated on top of the cliff, with a fantastic open view at the sea. During our stay (unfortunately for only 2 nights...) we have seen several whales within 50 meters distance of the shoreline so we didn't need a boat to see them :). Thank you for your hospitality and perhaps we'll meet again!

Cliff Lodge quite simply took our breath away. We had been recommended it by a friend but even then it was beyond our expectations. The view from the verander onto the sea was unbelievably beautiful and when the whales cruised by as we were having breakfast, it was almost surreal. Everything about the place was perfect, from the fantastic room, with a lovely outside shower (with a view of the sea), to the lovely breakfast and to the flawless service and hospitality of Gideon, Gill and Nico, who were on hand to offer any advice we needed but were equally happy to let us relax too. We can't praise Cliff Lodge highly enough. Brilliant value for money, so relaxing and we would go back in a flash. One of the best places we have ever stayed in, anywhere in the world. Fantastic.

On our first trip through South Africa we stayed in many very good guesthouses. But the Cliff Lodge was the best. Not only was the view from the balcony breathtaking, we could watch the wales swim by while having a fabulous breakfast or during the day and evening. Gideon and Gill were the best of hosts, preparing not only breakfast, but also making suggestions for dinner (the reservations too) and helping with planing the day, what to see and where to go. We recommend this guest house at the highest level - you shouldn't miss it if you travel along the coast in this area.We for use would love to come back! Thank you very much!

We stayed at Cliff Lodge for the first time in December 2010 and returned this November 2011 for another three nights as we liked it so much. We would highly recommend a stay at this guest house. Firstly, the views are spectacular and Cliff Lodge is one of the few properties in De Kelders that has no road in front of it. You can whale watch whilst having a superb breakfast. Dont forget to try Gideon's excellent Rooibos tea! As hosts, Gideon, Gill and Nico are superb. They will help plan your day and organise somewhere to eat for supper depending on your individual tastes. They truly care about their guests and their experience. We were very well looked after. There is nothing bad to say about this guest house - book it and go - you wont be disappointed.
De Kelders is far nicer, quieter and more up-market than Hermanus. Our favourite restaurant was Beguela - try the lamb which is a labour of love.

This was our last stop on our first fantastic holiday to South Africa - and you could not have wished for a better finale to the trip. Gill, Gideon, Nico and Portia somehow made you feel that you were at home but with the addition of being spoiled rotten - how they manage to run such an amazing guest house is beyond me with views like that I wouldn't get anything done. The bed was so comfortable it was only the whales frolicking outside that made you want to leave it - that and Nico's fantastic coffee. I hate having to tell everyone about just how amazing this place is - it's the sort of place you want to keep a secret. So many little details - the hosts and the time they spend with you sharing the delights of their homeland, the rooms comfortable with all the trappings of a luxury hotel, fab wine, coffee and of course the view with the spectacle of whales and dolphins - it really was the perfect end to our holiday.

Just got round to posting a review - This 5 star B&B certainly ticks all the boxes both Gideon & Gill made us very welcome, into their guest house - it almost felt like home and old friends. We came back early from our meal out to find whole place empty, low lights and music on, was just heaven really. Nothing was ever a bother to them, they went out of their way to ensure we had a good time. The attention to detail in every room was superb and they have got it just right -with all the nice touches you would ever want. We only stayed 2 nights but we were so chilled and pampered, if given the chance we will definitely return for the views, the welcome and the sanctuary - it certainly had the wow factor for us !

From the moment we arrived at Cliff Lodge we were in awe. The views are absolutely breathtaking and the rooms are gorgeous. There were six of us so we stayed in several rooms, each wonderful, but my husband and I had the fortune of staying in the Ocean Suite, which was like a dream. So romantic with the private balcony and panoramic views! The breakfast was delicious, I couldn't stop eating, and the cappuccinos were perfection. Incredible shark diving is 5 minutes away and we canceled our whale watching trip because we saw so many from the balcony of the lodge. Gill and Gideon, thank you for being such great hosts, we can't wait to come back!
