For me, an overnight stay which will call me back has 60% to do with the hosts, 20% the size of the shower and 20% the bedding. The view - in this case the pond for the whales on your doorstep, was an extra. I really enjoyed the warmness and friendlyness of the hosts - the koeksisters as a greeting surprice arouns a cuppa tea, the port to end off the chat the evening, the variety of surprises in the excellent room, the size of the shower, the spledid breakfast surprises every morning - it is not an overnight stay - it is a quick experience of special people with a great b&b at Franskraal. Looking forward to the next opportunity.

Room Tip: The front rooms will have the best ocean sound in the night - no traffic anyway

The best stay during our 2 weeks in South africa was at Amanda and Heimi's place in Franskraal. Everything from the warm welcome, the breakfast and the bar was top class. On top of that you have the fantastic view from your lovely room and the beach just around the corner.

We spent a month in SA and stayed at a few places and this was by far the best place we stayed at. The location is directly on the coast with a great view; within walking distance to a beach and only a few minute drive to restaurants in Gansbaai. The room was spacious and comfortable and there is a rooftop terrace that guests can use. The service provided by Helmie and Amanda was second to none. They are gracious hosts that make you feel welcomed in their home and they were more than happy to accomodate any request that we had. The breakfasts were fantastic too! I would highly recommend this B&B.

We stayed at Franskraal in Gans Bay to do Great White shark cage diving the following morning. Franskraal is a little Bed & Breakfast a stone's throw away from the ocean. The sea views are breathtaking and you can hear the surf pounding on the beach at night. Amanda and Helmie de Vries were amazing hosts, leaving personal touches like chocolates and homemade fudge in the rooms. The room was huge and had a bath and shower to choose from. The de Vries suggested Aquazine, a little restaurant 5 minutes drive away and on the harbour in Gans Bay (where we did our shark cage diving from). The food was mouth-watering and even though we arrived 5 minutes before they were closing, they sat us regardless and the service was excellent.
The de Vries were kind, warm and very welcoming people who made us feel right at home. We would most definitely stay here again on our next epic trip to Southern Africa.

We found it accidently, but it was the best that could happen!
Located a little bit outside of Gansbaai directly at the beach you have a wonderful lookout and it is easy to go for a small or long walk along the beach and cliffs.
Very clean and nice rooms (only 2!) with a superb and modern bath. Although "only" a B&B it offers a little luxury.
The hosts are a friendly couple offering a personal note and something special to your trip - being it the excelent red wine at the fire place or the delicious personally made breakfast.

There is too much to praise to put in a review so in summary, this little B&B is second to none. The owners Helmie and Amanda are simply amazing - the most hospitable, welcoming and generous couple. After a long drive they were awaiting our arrival, where we were shown our beautiful, large bedroom with views of the sea, lovely decorations and bathroom products etc. On being offered a drink to unwind and relax we found ourselves upstairs looking out over the sea, and whilst planning on driving out for dinner, instead were invited to stay with them and their friends for a truely authentic and delicious dinner and drinks. It was a wonderful evening and one of the best experiences we had in our 2 wk stay travelling around SA. Thank you Amanda and Helmie for making our stay so special, and also for the fabulous vineyard tour, we felt privilidged. This is an experience we will continue to talk about for years to come and for anyone passing through the area or going shark diving (under 5 minute drive away), you would be mad to miss Franskraal B&B! My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay at this B&B, we had a spacious room with large bath tub, seperate shower and seperate WC. The hosts Helmie and Amanda were very welcoming and relaxed and I could see thoroughly enjoy their role as hosts by the seaside. No detail is overlooked and little treats like chocolates on the pillow and coming home to little treats in the room is a pleasure.

We based ourselves here to be near Gansbaai for cage shark diving and could not find anything we liked in our price range in Gansbaai. The only thing that I would point out is there is no restaurant in Franskraal so for dinner we would need to drive 5-10 mins to Gansbaai which was fine by us however could be a problem if you both wanted to drink.

The breakfast is AMAZING and on the first floor balcony overlooking the sea - lovely way to start the day.
