“Stone Cottage”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

The road leading to the Stone cottage was a little bit scary at times, but the drive was worth while as the little stone cottage was quite a surprise. Our only neighbours, the cows visited us and "kokeloer" when my wife was bathing. De Rust surely deserves to be a town of the year and Meirings Poort was breathtaking. We left just in time before it was closed due to the heavy rains during Dec 13.

Excellent value for money. The cottages are very neat with luxury finishes and are elegantly decorated with a big beautiful bathroom. The other accommodation (2 bedroomed cottage/ old milk barn) is furnished with basic furniture and some essential utensils were missing, but the owner made every effort the provide what we needed which made it a very pleasant stay. The tame farm animals that came to meet us when we arrived were very authentic and were the highlight of our stay for our little girl who got to feed the calf in the morning. The setting is beautiful and peaceful and the owner very friendly, helpful and accommodating . I would definitely recommend this stay to anyone.

Room Tip: Any of the 2 sleeper cottages. These are far nicer than the 2 bedroomed cottage for the same price!

My Husband and I spent 1 night in one of the cottages and what a pleasant surprise to find this little gem at the beginning of a 2 week trip up to the Kruger park.
We wanted self catering and absolutely everything you need is catered for in a smart up market well thought out cottage with luxury touches at a great rate. We loved the friendly nanny Goat which greeted us and visited in the room and the 2 friendly Burmese cats as well as the 2 dogs.
Its a working Farm obviously and the cows mill around and look extremely interested in the goings on. I can highly recommend this as a stay over we loved it and it was a hard act to follow for the rest of the accommodation over the next 2 weeks.

We loved the Stone Cottage at Meijer's Rust. Perfect for a couple needing some quiet time. Cottage very well designed with delicious outside bath and semi-open air kitchen. Made friends with the tame eland who ate carrots out of my hand while I was bathing! Lovely walks, dam to swim in and a 4x4 track to the top of the mountain. The owner Barry and his fiancé Vivian were very helpful and enthusiastic, great to see a farmer who enjoys his own farm so much.
