“Heavenly escape from the city rat race!”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

We chose Bushmanskloof as our girls' weekend venue and we were absolutely delighted at how quickly our troubles melted away while our waistlines slightly increased - the food was phenomenal!! We had the River rooms next to Marikana (dining area) and were amazed at how the staff anticipated our needs. The bubbles were flowing (what's a girls' weekend without pink bubbles) and the food- perfect portions. Notable dessert was the "Trip Down Memory Lane" or something like that - peppermint tart and milk tart, etc - absolute bliss. Sijbrandt (Seppie) was an awesome guide - calm guy and showing us the Bushman paintings and explaining the history intensely without turning it into an academic session. The spa was amazing - at least we have the memories of the gazebo treatments (and the still glowing skin) to remind us that we were there a few days ago ... We'll be back :-)

Just impossible to ask more, the location is perfect, the lanscape is amazing, pools are wonderful, rooms are very nice and spacious, we had 2 terraces, and enjoyed each one. There is a lot of choice of activities, flyfishing, canoeing, archery, and of course the walking trails, and game drive with a guide. Our guide Roman, initiate us to archery, and we had a lot of fun. His knowledge in Bushmans art is impressive. He is full of energy and we appreciated a lot. The staff is more than excellent, they take care at every details, they are very friendly, they do everything to make ourselves confortable. The food is outstanding, they have in their menu a "health" part which allowed to everybody to chose exactly what he wants to eat. It's a good information for people like me who have a special diet. Mine is gluten free, and lactose free, so it is not easy every day!!!
Spécial thank to the Chef who prepared fresh gluten free bread just for me, and even at the outside dining, during which I was explained very clearly, what was allowed, and was not.
It is an efficient teamwork, their aim is your stay to be unique and unforgettable, and that's it !!!!!

My sister lives in South Africa and I live in the US. This year I turn 50 so we wanted to meet somewhere special! Did we find the perfect place. We met at Cape Town airport where we were met by a driver who took us on a spectacular scenic 3 and a half hour drive. On arrival we truly believed we had stumbled upon an oasis. Everything was so lush and green with incredible plants and well manicured rambling lawns down to ponds or 4 beautifully private swimming pools. We were met by Michelle, James, Gerard and Danielle. Friendly welcoming group.
Fresh lavender damp towels were offered to clean up before sampling the most delicious rooibos ice tea. Our first suite was in the manor house Patterson Suite. Huge patio with 4 chaise lounges and a huge table. This overlooked the river and the pool to the right. Centrally situated so close to dining, spa and reception. A beautiful lounge so elegantly decorated by Toni Stanley Tollman's daughter who has done a fabulous job decorating the entire lodge. Our master bedroom was large and everything you needed was right at your finger tips. We even had a separate outside nook for reading in the afternoon. Day 3 we decided to treat ourselves and move to the "honeymoon" suite - Riverside. Very appropriate since I live in Riverside CT. Well here we thought we had died and gone to heaven!! Riverside is well worth the extra dough since you are truly private. We had 3 patios to choose from, our favorite of course was overlooking the mountains over our perfectly private infinity pool. It was here that we laughed, relaxed and got our heads into Mr Tollman's life story book. How appropriate to be enjoying one of his finest properties while reading about his life with his remarkable family. I am half way through so cannot critic that quite yet. Loving reading it as we lived in Joburg around the same time and there is a lot of familiar characters mentioned.
Back to Riverside - huge living room with Tv, video, music system and of course Internet. Paintings incredible and furnishings beautiful. Toni does not miss a beat with her tremendous talent for decorating which I gather she got from her mother Bea. Our bedroom was perfect with a door out to our pool patio as well as a door out to our coffee in the morning patio. Bathroom included bath as well as shower and separate loo. Door from there also out to the patio. I do have to mention the outside shower. This was were we showered every day, huge powerful shower head with lots of hot water and many places to put your things so you could get dressed in the Reed enclosed shower.
Gail and I treated ourselves to a spa treatment every day. We cannot rave enough about the facility itself and their super friendly staff who pampered our souls. Nico, Marilee and Inike were our specialists. Do not forget to get treatments at the outside gazebo. It is no wonder they won an award for best spa in South Africa 2011. Dee runs the spa and has a fabulous team. The food was exceptional and Daniel couldn't have been more on top of things, what a lovely young man. Floris and Floris ( yes two different chefs) created delicious meals for us everyday . Beatrice was in the restaurant at every meal to welcome us and make sure all was good. We were lucky enough to be treated to a dinner out in the mountains which was absolutely spectacular. Here we were able too mingle and meet all the other guests in a relaxed setting overlooking the lodge and mountains in the distance. Wonderful South African dishes were served by Floris and Daniel was there to make sure we were happy.
Our private game Ranger Gerhard dined with us and we were able to discuss the bush art that he had shown us as well as our game drives in the evening. He was so knowledgable and knew the answers to all our questions about the area. Always friendly with a huge smile on his face. James is a fantastic manager and it is quite evident that he is because the staff are all happy. Floris did a great job stepping in as manager when James went off on leave. I do have to mention the most incredible night of all was the last one. My friend Tim who lives in the States decided to treat me for my birthday. Daniel told me to be ready at eight, wear something warm and meet Gerhard at the Landrover. Gail and I thought we were going to get a private dinner in the bush ( no big deal). We drove for about half an hour and I was now not sure what was happening. Long story short we arrived at an inferno of candles and fires surrounding and including this quaint stone Shepard's hut. Gerard tells me their is a letter for me inside. Stepping inside was quite something. 100 candles lit all around the room, beautifully set table (silver and all). Delicious wine and a letter wishing me Happy Birthday from a dear dear friend. Nico and his helper prepared a delicious meal for us, we then sat around the fire and reminisced before heading back to our bed at Riverside. That was truly top of the list for a special night. What a way to end our perfect reunion. Thank you all at Bushman's Kloof. You have something very special there. I am with out a doubt bringing my husband to Bushman's Kloof. Thank you.

If you want to forget about you cellphone, park your vehicle and enjoy nature in luxury with excellent service, this is the place for you! If you dont have a venue for your 31 Dec 2013 yet this is the place. Our 31 Dec 2012 was just awesome! The Bushmans Kloof team made one of the best ever under the open star skies, the moon rising overlooking the mountains on a deck. The small stalls was so creative from where you may collect different cuisine from seafood to local South African food as much as you wanted. What was also great was the short concert from local children and chef Floris Smith also showed his gumboot talent. The cuisine from chef Floris kitchen was divine, loved the fish and chips. We had an Extraodinary Dining experience at Kadoro that was unforgetable. The rooms was excellent. The pools was different from the usual, bringing the surroundings of nature closer. The game drives and Bushman drawings a great experience. The natural surroundings different then any other I have seen.

Room Tip: For a family the Livine room was great
