“Shame about the breakfast!”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

With temperatures around 34 degrees, early morning walking was necessary. This walk was perfect; we took around 2-1/2 hours though its only 4 klm. Very pleasant scenery, beautiful coloured bits of rock, interesting rock paintings (made more fascinating with the accompanying booklet). We saw dasies, springbok, lizzards but unfortunately at the end of the walk no breakfast available at Travellers Rest but very engaging woman, whose brother owns the farm the rock paintings are on, who served us coffee and juice.

“Fantastic rock art”
Reviewed January 29, 2012

We did part of the trail (6 sites) in 45deg heat! Stupid, but worth it!

Reasonably easy walking with a few scrambles. 2km out gets you to 6 sites - other 4 are much farther.

Art is best we have seen so far, with great colour and amazing detail, including what look like dinosaurs at one site! 500 year old paintings of prehistoric creatures - go figure.

“A history lesson you will never forget.”
Reviewed January 24, 2012

Stroll along the Brandewyn river, through wonderful rocky scenery and discover the history and spiritual rituals of the original people of Southern Africa. On this self-guided trail you can take your time and marvel at the delicacy of these ancient rock paintings. During spring you will have the added attraction of natural flower gardens surrounding the sites. Comfortable, unpretentious accommodation is available in self catering cottages scattered around the valley. Another wonderful rock art site may also be visited on the farm at Salmonslaagte though you will need to ask for a key.

“Great easy trail with fab rock art”
Reviewed December 4, 2011

Make sure you've some decent trainers on as the terrain is quite uneven, other than that it's mainly flat. We just walked to no.6 as were short of time. There and back took us just over 1 hour but we do walk fairly fast.
