“Glory days are gone, sadly.”

Should you be looking for budget accommodation, Clanwilliam Hotel fits the bill...other than the cost! My wife and I paid R1200 for a 2 night stay and ended up feeling a little ripped off. It felt a little like staying at an old age home: slightly musty, old fashioned (and old) decor, pink enamel bath and basin, hearing your neighbors every move in the bath next door, no tea or coffee (other than from a dispenser - ricoffy?!) and a tiny TV with horrendous sound in the clothing cupboard - really? Oh, did I mention non-existent views?
The staff are very helpful though and cannot be faulted for service levels. Also, the Cederberg is just so stunning that you won't be spending that much time in the hotel room anyway.

Room Tip: Better rooms would be by the swimming pool I think.

I booked a netball group in at the hotel for two nights. One or two of the carpets were not to good, old, but clean! One of the rooms had a brand new carpet in. We had friendly service, clean linen, crispy towels and glasses in the room. On request we were provided with a kettle for the room as well as mugs! We had a pleasant stay. This hotel is nice and central.

Room Tip: Just ask for the rooms that they have already upgraded

We did a 1 night en-route through the Cederberg this weekend and as this was at short notice, we decided to book at the Clanwilliam Hotel .... wrong move! The rooms were just short of disgusting - clean but disgusting - the carpets had so many stains and burn marks that it actually looked like a pattern, the room reeked of smoke, there was a 2 plate stove and absolutely nothing else. I know this is being sold as budget accommodation but still ....

The highlights were ice cold beers in the bar and a great breakfast in the restaurant which I believe is sub-contracted out and not really part of the Hotel.

Would I return and stray at the hotel - nope! But I will try dinner in the restaurant next time.

Room Tip: Try the "garden facing" rooms, not a blade of grass to be found but the rooms looked nicer...

This was the worst experience ever. The service are very bad. There is a 2 plate stove in the unit but NO cups, teaspoons, glasses, or anything else. The toilet leaks. The swimming pool gets lockup at 17h00. Tough luck if it is very hot and you want to swim!!!! Only 5 cars can park in secure parking the rest must use street parking. Receptionist very unfriendly. Miss information on website. According to note in room, it is a Budget Hotel. Nothing of that on website and the prices are not budget prices.

we had twice our dinner at Clanwilliam hotel.
Good food and wine for decent price. There is not a big choice in Clanwilliam, so don' hesitate to go there. We enjoyed our meals there.
Firsr evening we had fillet stak, second evening fish and chips - both very good quality.

Check in time was 14h, we we arrived 15 minutes earlier and were asked to come back later, strange service attitude... The hotel is located in the center of Clanwilliam. The room was in an ungarnished backyard, where also the pool and the parking is located. Parking in this backyard is limited to 5 cars, cost is 10 Rand for safe parking. Also, a tiny garden (ca. 3 m x 1 m) gives a bit of green in this backyard. Our room was called garden unit, maybe because of the proximity to the green spot. The room was functional with aircon and fridge. We found a nicer accomodation in Clanwilliam and checked out from Clanwilliam hotel.

Room Tip: We booked a so called "garden unit", but the garden is a tiny green spot in the backyard.

The hotel, located very ideally in the middle of the small town, is quite old and a little run down but the rooms are clean and the service friendly. The rooms are huge and in some rooms there are multiple beds, which make it ideal for family travelling. The rates are quite low, and therefore it is great for a quick stop over. There is a new restaurant, Andee’s, inside the hotel (under different management) which has good food and services a lovely breakfast (which is not included). There is not a lot of restaurants in town and this makes it easy for tired travellers to grab a bite or have a drink in the pub area to relax.
