We stayed at Saint du Barrys in Clanwilliam for one night on our recent touring holiday through the Western coast of South Africa. The room was clean and well put together. I particularly appreciated the lovely toiletries made locally from rooisbos, all products being most delightful and therapeutic, especially the bath foam. We were a bit disappointed to discover that we had to purchase the bottled water in our room, so we went to the local grocery shop and bought our own at a much more reasonable price. Our breakfast was delicious, served outside in the private courtyard. Our only complaints are that, considering February is the hottest month in South Africa, the pool was not clean or usable; and, yet, we had booked Saint du Barrys because the photos indicated there was a pool. We also found the air conditioner in the room to be very noisy, but otherwise, all was good. Our hostess had recommended making reservations at Reinhold's for dinner, but we took too long to act upon the decision and ended up having dinner at the MOST disappointing Andee's Pub and Restaurant within the Clanwilliam Hotel, but I will review that separately. The African Grey Parrot, Dramian, was most entertaining, so do watch for him if you visit. He had the cat's meow down pat, which confused and frightened the birds that entered his cage to steal food. All in all, we enjoyed our short visit and the hostess most helpful and friendly.

Thank you for taking the time to review Saint du Barry's. We appreciate your comments. The pool is occasionally a problem because of the number of trees in the garden.

Guest house is very easy to find, on main road east out of Clanwilliam.
Hosts were very welcoming. Very comfortable room, and excellent breakfast.
Anticipating that we would require dinner, a table had been booked for us at Reinhold's, an excellent local restaurant. This was within walking distance, and Clanwilliam had a very safe feel to it.

I took pot luck on a month's road tour of SA at the end of a long tiring driving day and was delighted with this property - a cold beer under the stoop on arrival really helped matters !

I only stayed one night, but thought that this would be an excellent base for a couple of days in the Cedarburg.

The layout of the garden, car park and rooms all add to the atmosphere of the place, which is very relaxed - see below !

As previously reported, affairs can be a little 'relaxed', but that perhaps is the charm of the place.
Room was very clean and the bed very comfortable - the aircon was efficient without being intrusive.

Location is easily found and I was given a good dinner recommendation.

Breakfast was excellent

We stayed here for one night on a touring holiday. The Gueast house was comfortable and well maintained. The owners and staff were very welcoming, even lending us a guide book to the Rock Art and giving us detailed directios. Breakfasts were excellent.

We stayed for one night at Saint du Barrys and it was a lovely evening. Wally and Joan are genuine people who are committed to the local community. The rooms are clean, well presented and homely, set around a courtyard that has a lovely rustic feel. They have a parrot and dogs, and overall it is a little shambolic but in a very warm and welcoming way. I enjoyed my stay here very much and would love to go back. If you are looking for a modern, pristine, highly groomed place to stay, Saint du Barrys is not for you, but if you are looking for a warm, genuine, intimate place with bags of character then Saint du Barrys is absolutely what you are looking for.
