“Dismal expensive accommodation”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2013 via mobile

I felt unclean using the accommodation and at R750 a night for 2 adults & 3 children it is way way way overpriced. Was pleased to return home on Sunday. Yuck! Stay elsewhere please! Can not begin to mention problems with inferior accommodation and I run my own 50 yr self catering establishment so know what to look for. Worst experience in karoo yet.

We as a family of 9 use to go every year religiously. Our last visit this past march (out of season) was not too nice. It was loud, people blaring their tv and radio sets at the camping sites. the pool area was well maintained but patrons were smoking in the warm water pools and many were diving in the pools and doing back flips. every so now and then you would see people drinking a beer or a glass of wine inside the pool area. there was actually a day visitor with a beer bottle in the cold pool. Disgusting. there was no patrol from management.

I had my toddler with me and would often go down to the park area near the shop but there were, more than once, adults on the park equipment.

we were all so put off by our last visit and sad at the same time. as warmwaterberg use to be a quiet, clean and secluded haven.

You'll either love it or hate it, but Warmwaterberg has its peculiar charms. It is a true gem in disguise, once you get over the initial look of it. It offers two hot and one sparklingly cold pool - dreaming under the Karoo stars at near-freezing temperatures while immersed in hot water is simply bliss.

Don't be alarmed that there is only one tap in every shower and elsewhere - all the water comes from the same source, so it's warm. (Tepid drinking water is not to everyone's taste, though - although perfectly safe to drink, so drink tea, mix it with juice, and get over it.)

On the upside, the hot pools are emptied every other day. And once you get over the strangeness of the grey painted deep Roman baths, they're a treat. The ablutions are cleaned twice a day, so hygiene is not so much the issue as the fact that everything simply looks run-down.

So while its location so far off the beaten track probably doesn't warrant going the five-star route, I agree with other reviewers that much could be done to improve visitors' experience that would not cost the owners the proverbial arm or leg, or chase away the regulars with exhorbitant prices.

Yes, more space in the showers/ablutions would be fantastic.
The laundry basins definitely need an update.
Also, the farm-dam turned restaurant/shop simply looks dodgy because of a lack of lighting - a few windows could make all the difference.

All in all, we had a great time, but a nod towards the new millennium would make all the difference.

Spent two nights in caravan park during June with a group of friends..- lovely green grass and shade for summer- but ablutions are awful. Showers are small and dark with two shower curtains. Between the two is where you change. No privacy. Only two toilets and two very small hand basins. The total experience is not good. One measly little light as well in the space. The Roman Baths are used by some people - not sure how these are cleaned. Owners need to relook at whole complex. Food in the restaurant was good though. Could also do with a bit of TLC. Staff were friendly.

This is not a five star setup, but a rustic farm/type getaway. Its got hot spring baths and pools and its a basic do it yourself place. The place has always been clean during our 4x visits this past 12months.
If you do mid-week as a pensioner the Hotel rooms (old sanatorium) come at only R150 per person. These rooms have double bed + 2 bunk beds (grandchildren???). You get a separate roman bath with hot spring water, fridge, two plate cooker, kettle, toaster. The verandah has chairs & tables and there is a TV lounge (for those who need it) DSTV in full.
There is a restaurant with GOOD FOOD, a shop for basics, a cold pool, two hot pools with direct spring water. There are the usual braai spots, wood at shop. We will be going every 90 days as its a *kop skoon maak plek*

Room Tip: Pensioners always choose the Hotel/sanatorium and go mid week, its the best value in the Western Cap...

Once (in Viictorian) Warmwaterberg spa used to be worth going to. Now it is a peculair stop-over. Just take th turn when you see Ronnies "Sex"Shop at the N62. Whether you will like it is hard to predict. But things are improving we heard from regular visitors.
The plus:
+The warm water bath are hot and nice.
+Nice walks and stunning views
+Old houses always have their own charm
The average
=Hygiene
=Food
The minus
-All is old and you will see that everywhere

ANs although our kids were not allowed to dive and jump into the bats, they liked very much. And so di their parents.

Room Tip: Kamer 1 is top

We stayed here in September 2012 for a few days and really enjoyed it. This isn't high end luxury but a rustic, relaxing place. It was out of season and so there weren't lots of kids around - mainly older people enjoying the baths. We stayed in a wooden cottage that was clean but very creaky - no sneaking to the loo at night without waking everyone. The sunrise views from the deck were amazing and there is a lot of bird life to enjoy. We did the long walk and I would recommend it. The restaurant is good but we preferred to braai outside our cabin most nights. The pools look murky but aren't slimy at all and the temperature is great. It was a great Karoo experience!
