I have stayed here 3 times on visits to South Africa. It is very cosy and rustical. The owners make you feel so at home and it is certainly good value for money. Nice Garden for sunbathing, and dont forget to ask to meet Priscilla the pet pig.

Room Tip: the garden bungalow

It's not the first time that we, and our brood, have stayed at Tradouw. And each time we've had an excellent stay, wishing it was longer.

Leon and Denis offer excellent, good old fashioned South African hospitality in the quaint and rather eccentric town of Barrydale. Behind the guest house, a living museum of vintage objects (owners excluded :), is a large tranquil beautifully landscaped garden, tended by Denis himself, a prolific gardener. And, across the road is another indigenous garden belonging to the guest house, Priscilla the pig, and collection of chickens and other animals. Priscilla herself should be an attraction. She is the largest pig I have ever seen, and clearly very happily 'at home'.

Everything at the guest house is done with a detail and a very loving touch ... and over the years the rooms and communal areas have been repeatedly renovated and refurbished - so it's always interesting to return.

This is not the place for perfectionists looking for a star rated establishment. How boring! No, Tradouw, like a fine old lady, has her wrinkles, defining her character. This is the perfect spot for those looking for a unique stay.

It's a guest house and home, you'll remember with a smile.

We had a great time at Tradouw Guesthouse. We had the place to ourselves and were made to feel very welcome by Leon. The bar is a little gem and the fireplace is very cosy. The rooms are comfortable and Dennis serves a decent breakfast. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone travelling through Barrydale!!

Delightful village in a stunning setting. The guesthouse oozes rustic charm and the hosts - Leon and Dennis are very attentive and helpful. Rooms comfortable and two are up a short flight of steps looking onto the large garden. breakfast is under a shaded vine covered yard. Chickens patrol the gardens and across the road you will find Priscilla the pot bellied pig (Queen of the Little Karoo and Bertie the bullock) together with a native american medicine garden. A refreshing stop on the R62 - well worth adding to your itinerary.

Room Tip: The garden rooms are a little more spacious
