We liked the very special and charming atmosphere of the guest house and felt very much at home. Lively and interesting hosts, nice room with comfortable bed.
Good breakfast and homecooked dinner.
We had a good time!

We spent a day at the Tradouw Guest House in Barrydale recently (April 2012) and had a great time. Dennis and Leon are very good hosts, serving us a fantastic dinner and a great breakfast the following morning. The guest house is charming and the rooms are comfortable. You have to visit with the silk hens in the backyard, and with Priscilla the pig across the street.

We also had fun at the Blue Bistro, a pub just down the street. Barrydale is a lovely village and a great place to stop along Route 62.

A delightful location with wonderful hosts. Don't miss out on this gem in the Western Cape. The town is charming as is the guest house. Rustic, comfortable rooms, satisfying breakfast in the beautiful enclosed garden and homecooked dinners. The hosts are really great and nothing is too much for them. In the local area there are some good hot water springs and don't forget to check out the gallery which makes beautiful household objects from recycled material - a couple of items are said to have made it to the White House in Washington DC.
If you want a stay away from it all - and be looked after do visit. After all it's only a three hour drive from Cape Town with some varied and great scenery on the way - don't miss the Tradouw Pass especially now that the road has been upgraded.

Wow, what a great place to stay! We stayed at Tradouw guesthouse in Dec 2010. It is such a lovely guesthouse.

This small and independent guesthouse has bags of character and charm. The owners are fantastic, very friendly and welcoming, Leon provided us with loads of information about the area.

Our room was very nice. It was in keeping with the guesthouse, clean and looked out on to the garden.

There is a great little bar and the breakfast was fantastic, served outside in the beautiful garden.

I would highly recommend this guesthouse, I have travelled a lot and visited some amazing places but this guesthouse has always stuck in my mind.

I dont think I can add to the recent reviews.
The guesthouse is back in the 60s,but very clean and a good food.
nice garden to have your sundowners and another garden opp. the guesthouse to spend time in. Its a must if you are in the area. If Leon reads this review thanks for the beer.

Room Tip: Ask for the room opp. the garden.

We stopped over in Barrydale on our way along Route 62 and stayed in Tradouw Guesthouse for one night only - unfortunately! The guesthouse is such a special place - we felt taken back to the "good old times". It is full of antique items in the dining room, it also has a quaint little bar with beautiful old turntables.
Leon is such a gentle man who looks after each one of his guests so well. It is a real pleasure to share his company. His partner Denis prefers to stay in the background (= kitchen); he cooked a wonderful 3-course meal for us - we loved the springbock carpaccio! We had breakfast in the garden under the vines - it was delicious, too.
The garden in the back is very spacious, you can find lots of quiet corners on the grounds to relax and enjoy. There is another amazing garden belonging to the house accross the street with a medicine wheel, a petanque court, orchard and "Priscilla"
We would have loved to extend our stay... We will definitely come back!
