My husband and I were driving through Barrydale on our way to Knysna and found Tradouw Guesthouse on the way. It looked like a decent place to stop and have a quick cup of tea and a bite for lunch and it turned out to be a lovely surprise.

Denis gave us a wonderfully warm welcome! He really couldn't have been nicer and we sat down to a simple and lovely lunch. The outside restaurant with it's beautiful pergola and mural of the western cape on one wall is so charming. It absolutely oozes character! We had quiche and a toasted sandwich with a lovely salad on the side. It's not haute cuisine but it's still delicious and hits the spot! We then had the scones with strawberry jam! MY GOODNESS the BEST scones with cream and jam I've had outside of the UK!

We also then took a little tour of their back garden. Just delightful! My husband and I are both in the landscaping industry and just loved it! Quaint and well laid out. It really did look like the perfect place to kick off your shoes and enjoy the view while sipping on a cuppa and reading a book! Just darling. We've both agreed the next time we're in SA we have to book a room there and stay for a while.

What can I say?? If you have not been there, you have not yet experienced the best service ever. The warmest fireplace in winter and the coolest river in summer.

I go at least 3 times a year. Valentines being one, my birthday is the other, then just another time because I can. As it is almost time for my birthday again, I will be packing my bags next weekend to go again. Denis makes the bestest Tomato and Cheese sandwich (according to a 20 year old girl - my daughter) I think it is the best place to be and have been going for 10 years almost. I hope there will be another ten more. Pack your bags if you want a real relaxing and enjoyable weekend. Make it a week. You will not be sorry.

We have only stayed one night in the causy guestgouse but it was worth to stay here and to enjoy the wonderful garden and surroundings of the guesthouse. You feel a little bit like in the 60ies with all the decoration in the rooms and the music playing. you can relax in the garden together with a dog, cats, chicken and a lot of birds passing by. The breakfat was perfect nd served under a nice tree outside in the garden. The place is very safe and you can feel free and relaxed. The hosts are very friendly and want you to enjoy.
Perfect stay (we loved Barrydale much more than Montegu)..

We booked Tradouw Guesthouse at the last minute along our tour of the Garden Route and Route 62 and it was our favourite stopover. The town of Barrydale is so beautiful and quaint as was the accommodation. Our hosts Leon and Denis made us feel at home with their personalised service and delicious homemade food. The old fashioned country style Tradouw Guesthouse in Barrydale is a must stopover along Route 62. Excellent value!

Just outside of Barrydale our car broke down, we could turn the car around and by running it downhill we made Barrydale our car finally stopped just in front of this B&B. Although it was not by choice, we had a great stay at this guesthouse! The next time we will surely we come around if in the neighborhood. We were warmly welcomed and well we were not sure if we would stay depending on what the car rental company arranged, we got a great pot of coffee. In the night we were changing cars and everything was possible to arrange with them.

So a great stay on a less pleasant moment, we will remember the beautiful garden en space of the B&B and we would surely advice anyone who wants to stay here to do so!

This B&B has real character. The owners, Leon and Dennis, are very hospitable and kind. The decor is wonderfully done with loads of music items from old albums and sheet music. At breakfast the cereal is served in the old original metal cans dating from the 20's and 30's. There is a great garden/yard as well as a special garden and meditation area they own across the street.

Staying in a place like this is what real traveling is about. You will learn so much more about South Africa staying in such a place as this. They also have a licensed bar on the premises. There are quite a few restaurants in the town as well.

This place was the last night of our trip to the Cape area and it was a great ending to a fabulous trip to South Africa.
