Reviewed November 22, 2012 via mobile

Dropped in on a thursday afternoon on our way to joberg airport from kruger. Nice comfirtable cottage in a small but safe little town with nice shops and restaurants. The cottage is a good deal and i would come back for a longer stay next time if i lived closer

On the most part, I enjoyed staying at Fox's Hill. We had the Fox's Meadow room, which was a standalone cottage on the border of the property, surrounded by flowers and plants, and included complimentary sherry, a four-poster bed, fireplace and a small TV with DVDs. We didn't meet the managers or owners, but rather were directed to a warehouse-type shop on the property to sign in and out, so the reception wasn't all that welcoming. The sink was also chipped and the mirror had dings in it, all in all, we were happy with it.

We had a 2 night stay in Dullstroom. After living here for 5 years we had certain memories of what WE would like to expect. Fox's Hill exceeded these. Beautiful well decorated rooms. My husband and my room/flat is perfect. We treated our daughter to her own room and she felt like a princess. We would recommend it to anyone and will certainly sta here again

I just got back from an incredible 2 night stay in Dullstroom and I, too, feel obliged to respond to Madame_XYZ's comments regarding Fox's Hill. My partner booked our accommodation so when, before going away, I read the below review I seriously considered changing our booking, but thankfully I did not... We found Fox's Hill to be absolutely perfect for a weekend getaway! We stayed in Fox's Meadow which is the stand along cottage in the garden surrounded by a beautifully tended garden with water features and flowers. The room was perfect... clean, well decorated (I think the owners also own the decor shop so one could see that everything had specifically been chosen with care), a wonderful fireplace, stand alone Victorian bath, bar fridge, lovely 4 poster bed, complementary sherry and chocolates, and anything else (matches, candles, bottle opener, spare blankets etc.) that one could ask for. We had an absolutely fabulous time. Fox's Hill is just off the main road, but the rooms are behind a garden wall and a beautiful garden so you forget the road, we could hardly hear traffic except for the odd truck coming through, and it is in walking distance from all the local restaurants and shops, and the lady at the reception is only too happy to help with recommending things to do in town. All in all a great stay, very good value for money, and we will definitely stay there again when next in Dullstroom.

Room Tip: Fox's Meadow is stand alone in a beautiful garden, offers more privacy.

I feel obliged to respond to the review of Madame XYZ.

We had the most memorable stay at Fox's Hill Guest House. To have underfloor heating, a packed fireplace, sherry and chocolates are a really nice treat on a break away weekend. I am a frequent traveler and I don't have any complaints concerning Fox's Hill's accommodation. I will recommend this quaint guest house with its cozy atmosphere to anyone looking for a quiet, romantic break away.
Thank you Fox's Hill!

The website looked so awesome
[--]
so I booked it hoping to spend a marvelous time away with friends and family
What a rude awakening when we checked in!
Fox's Lair - a very tiny room situated underneath the main house
1 queen bed squashed between the two walls with very little walking space
On right side of bed, a little bar fridge squashed into corner and above it a heater
Old TV did not work properly, yellow picture
Copious amounts of extention cords everywhere
Fox's Hill - glass door ie entrance did not work, had to use the key to open ie door handle not functioning
Old TV did not work and was stuck together with cellotape at places and the cords to TV also stuck together with cellotape
Taps and railings etc were loose and about to fall off
Once again copieous amounts of extention cords
Fox's Loft - apparently, per website, a new addition.....I wonder...maybe new years ago
This Loft is a room built onto the outside garage
Underfloor heating - only half the room
The room has a corrugated iron roof with wooden slats on the inside and no insulation, so the room was extremely cold
No heater in room
No electric blanket in room
The blinds in room just cover the window but do not insulate from the cold and the bed is situated next to the window
The blinds are broken. The big blind covering a sliding door leading out onto a balcony could not be opened all the way as they were also broken
The blacony is rusted and when stepping onto the wooden planks the balcony gives way - scarry
The table is marked
Copious amounts of plugs and extention cords - a definite fire hazzard
The cupboard inside had a piece cut out with 4 plugs inserted...can you imagine if it would spark and you would have some clothing hanging there....fire!
The bath which stands in the same room has an electric plug right next to it....hazzardous!....and when I got out of this bath, water split over the side....
The ceiling lights are not all working only half of them
The room is underlit....ie no way to read in the dark....
They placed wood in the fire place....but no fire lighters to light it with....no paper to light it with....so useless
The off white towels were stained and did not smell clean
The off white bath mats were stained
When googling the address...it comes out as its situation 1 road away from the main road which was an important issue for me.
In fact it is on the main road!
For the light sleepers, like myself, you get woken by the occasional trucks driving through Dullstroom.
On arrival we were given the keys by an arbitary person who walked with us to the room and opened it for us...that was it!
Not once did we see the owner of the guest house....never did he/she/it show face and enquire about our visit.
When we left, we told this same arbitary person upon enquiry as to why we are checking out early (next morning) that the place is TERRIBLE!
I have not heard from the owners even after my comment about....
Please stay away from this establishment at all costs!

This review from "madame xyz" is not worth commenting on. Did she really stay at Fox's Hill? And that is the xyz of the story.
