Dunkeld Country Estate

Very beautiful place and surroundings, but the supplies in the bathrooms are lacking. not what you expect from a 4-star resort at all. There was only 1 small tube shower gel and shampoo, for 2 adults for a weekend.

The rooms are extremely cold and putting on the wall heater before arrival will go a long way.

We attended a wedding at Dunkeld last weekend and really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were clean and well furnished. The staff were polite and efficient. The food was good and the estate seemed well maintained. Although we didn't have time for any activities there seemed to be a lot to do. Will have to go back to explore.

This has to have been the worst hotel reservation process I've experienced. The Estate appears to use an external booking agent who are not up to the task. The web-based tool used to check confirmations did not provide the booking agent with my reservation request. On calling the agent, the phones went unanswered by the booking agents. The receptionist mentioned that the agents stop taking calls after 4 pm, even though the website states reservations can be made until 8 at night. Really disappointing as the Estate looks like a good spot for a few days of R&R.

My husband and I stayed at Dunkeld Country Estate this weekend. We were going to stay else where but on the last minute booked through the Daddys deal voucher. The estate is very beautiful and picturesque but the rooms are very cold despite the measly wall heater. The under floor heating in the bathroom doesn't work. There was a problem with the electricity and there was no water for part of Sunday morning. The rooms are not serviced on a Sunday .We stayed there from Saturday till Monday so not having a serviced room on a Sunday is a problem. There were flies in the bathroom. The staff are very friendly and the meals were good .This is supposed to be a 4Star establishment .It is more like 3 star .Until they improve the rooms and the housekeeping we will not be going back there

A quiet weekend in the trout fishing meca of Dullstroom beckoned - I had clinched a Daddy's Deal bargain and off we set on a chilly Friday morning. Dunkeld is set in a beautiful setting in the pine forest with lots of trout dams and ponds and a nicely laid out network of hiking/biking trails. Our lakeside hotel room was very small but nicely decorated, unfortunately the rooms are on top of one another and this makes it noisy and not too private. The first night we did not have hot water in the bathroom or a plug for the electric blanket, quickly rectified once we had brought it to management's attention. The food was average as was the service of the cleaning staff - with just a bit more attention to detail the hotel could really live up to it's 4 star rating but on this particular weekend it felt more like a 3 star establishment.

My husband and I stayed at the Dunkeld Country Estate for the weekend. We were booked into the self catering unit in the “Main House”. I see Dunkeld advertises it as 4 private self contained family suites. The best way to describe this accommodation is a barn that has been subdivided into 4, the unit and its finishing’s was actually okay, but we could hear everything that the couple below us and the couple and their two children next to us were doing, the only privacy was that you couldn’t see what everyone was doing but you could most definitely hear, the walls are paper thin. I must say I take my hat off the other occupants of this accommodation we all realised the situation we were in and were as quiet as possible, even the family with two small children. What I would like to know is how the Dunkeld can put people into such accommodation, obviously to make money and hopefully people won’t complain.
Well I certainly did complain, the Receptionist finally gave us other accommodation in the Lodge rooms on the Saturday morning, and from then onwards we had a super weekend. The Estate is lovely, there is a lot to do and the scenery is beautiful, we never ate at the restaurant and I am not sure what the self catering chalets are like, they seem okay from the outside, we might try one of these on our next visit.
The Contractor that was used to build the Dunkelds accommodation I am talking specifically where we stayed (Lodge room and Main House) was not great, there are a lot of things that are needing repair, one can see the initial job was done very slap dash this seems to be the norm with so many buildings now a days.
So my advice is ask where they have booked your accommodation when you do your booking and NEVER EVER stay at the “MAIN HOUSE”or what they call 4 private self contained family suites.

Room Tip: Never stay in the Main House

We recently spent a weekend at Dunkeld Country Estate in Dullstroom and it was amazing. Such a beautiful property! As you arrive through the gates, you drive through a pine forest which is really breathtaking. The service of the staff stood out for me, they were always friendly, willing to do anything to keep the guests happy and they truly were the stars of the show. We stayed in the KingFisher unit which is right next to one of the trout dams. What a brilliant place to stay and you can literally walk out of the front door a few paces and fly fish. It really is a beautiful place and very tranquil. At night we were having a braai outside and a group of wild horses that roam the estate came past our braai and were grazing just next to us, really was an amazing estate!! Great job to Management at Dunkeld for well trained staff, a clean estate and all round beauty of the estate.

Room Tip: I would recommend the Kingfisher room for the close proximity to a trout dam for fly fishing or the...

Our new reception, lounge and jazz bar was opened in August 2014 and compliments our banqueting facilities which cater to weddings, functions and conferences. We have a stone chapel, tea garden and can cater to your every need. Dunkeld is well known for its forest weddings. The resort boasts many well-stocked dams filled with Brown, Rainbow and Golden Trout, offering fly-fishing enthusiasts from novice to experienced the enjoyment of quality angling time in pursuit of that perfect catch. We are also passionate about introducing children to the art of fly fishing and one of our on-site guides holds a demo and teaching session every weekend. The estate also offers a host of family and child orientated activities. Our horse out rides are very popular as is our kiddies activity program. We are introducing new and fun activities every week.
