We did a one night stop over on our way to Hazyview and wish that we hadn't booked hazyview. Could have quite easily stayed there for a week. Had a lovely room down at the little dam, we only realised there were other people in the retreat when we went up for dinner. Food was amazing! Wonderful selection of wiskeys. A must for romantic getaways.

Room Tip: Rooms over looking the dam are beautiful, especially with the morning mist.

We booked the Presidential suite for 2 nights and were so impressed that we ended up extending for another 2 nights! Lovely venue, not over the top and value for money, very comfortable, peaceful, service beyond expectations, great food and in walking distance to the shops... what more could you want? The "Lovebirds" will be back!

Room Tip: Presidential suite was really fantastic - pillows were not the best but as for the rest - it was pre...

I have been to Peebles Country Retreat THREE times in the past year. That alone says enough.

I travel a lot, and have stayed in some great placed before, but the level of service, friendliness, accommodation... everything, at Peebles, has been absolutely beyond incredible!

The rooms are lavish, beautiful, spacious, and are always neat. The bathrooms are clean, with big showers... The Spa is incredible - equipped with everything from a Jacuzzi, Sauna, Steamroom, to various message rooms and treatment options.

The grounds are well-maintained; the pool-area is gorgeous, and there is safe and secure parking at the resort.

Service - from booking, to arrival, right through the stay at departure, is fantastic and friendly. This is across the board for ALL staff, whether it be at reception or in the restaurant. The Peebles staff go above and beyond to accommodate your every request and make your stay as incredible as possible.

I would recommend Peebles Country Resort for a romantic weekend breakaway; as a place to stay whenever travelling through Mpumalanga; and a definite must for international guests.

5-star Rating ALL the way!!!

Apart from the amazing waiter Simon, stay away! How can a five star hotel not even have a chef??? Choice of fish pie, chicken pie and vegetable lasagne for dinner??? Very unfriendly lady receptionist! Booked in for four nights and left after one! Fawlty towers in SA!!!

This was our halfway house stop between staying in a lodge and going back to the city. I had read some mixed reviews of Peebles so was not really sure what to expect. We arrived about 5pm after a long drive and were warmly welcomed by the staff. Our luggage was unloaded and dispatched very quickly to our rooms. On opening the door and looking in I admit to giving an audible squeal of delight. Hilariously, I found out later that my friends had also done the same thing. The room was in fact a suite and was enormous even for the two of us. As well as an ample bed beautifully made up, there was a seating area in front of the fireplace (with logs, ready to light don’t forget to check out the little tin by the fireplace. I can’t give away all the secrets!) At the other end was a table and chairs, a sofa bed and the TV and mini bar. We also had a balcony which overlooked the pool and hills in the distance. The bathroom housed a bath, separate shower, separate toilet and 2 vanity suites and a plentiful supply of towels. Apparently there is underfloor heating in the bathroom which we didn’t try out but knowing that Dullstroom can be a tad chilly, is I am sure very welcome. I had one slight issue as the hairdryer which should have been in the room had obviously gone walkabout, this was immediately rectified once we had reported it and the Manager was very apologetic that it was missing.
We went for the dinner bed and breakfast option so after lazing around our new suite, set off for the bar and dining room. The bar is a cozy place, fire burning brightly, which was a lovely welcome but a bit warm so we sat in the lounge area. This area is tastefully decorated and provided us with a large area to relax in with big squashy sofas. The dining room was set up in a way that reminded me of a wedding reception, that said, the service was excellent and the food of a very good standard. Sadly I was quite tired so the rather large portions were a bit over whelming.
I slept like a log in the enormous bed (my husband made a joke about needed two cans and a bit of string to chat) and woke up to the smell of fresh coffee brewing, there is the ability to make fresh filter coffee in your room as well as instant coffee or tea. It was lovely to wander onto the balcony and look out at the countryside, the gardener was already busy mowing the lawn which I guess may have been intrusive for some but didn’t bother us. We wandered over to the main reception area for breakfast which was again beautifully laid out with fresh flowers and leaves decorating the table. Good choice of fresh fruit, cereals and cooked breakfast. We checked out with great ease and our cases were brought to the car for us to load.
All in all a really good find. When we return to South Africa and need a stop off point, we will be back.
