From the moment you drive onto the Reserve your experience begins. We had the most amazing stay at Amakhosi - our Villa was impressive from every aspect - location, above the river and not over-looked at all, views, size, comfort, facilities. We had it all. Every member of staff was welcoming, friendly and you immediately felt a part of the Amakhosi family. Nick, our ranger, and Zak our tracker, made each of our 6 safaris great fun - their knowledge leading us to see game despite sometime over-cast weather and damp conditions following night time rain. Bull elephants sparring, elephant herd crossing the river at dusk, lion, rhino, impala, warthog, wilderbeast, cheetah, bird life, butterflies - we saw them all and more. Nick was so informative about all the animals and made each trip so enjoyable. We loved your sense of humour Nick!! Some of your sayings are used regularly here now. Sundowners and sun-uppers (named by my daughter) were hugely enjoyed by all.

We are a family of 5 - travelling with teenage girls of 15 and 14 years and our son 11 years. Amakhosi was the highlight of our holiday and we really want to return. Maybe for longer next time - just 3 nights this time around.

Thoroughly recommend this destination to all.

A big and heartfelt thank you Amakhosi for making our holiday - from us all.

Wow thank you for the review, we are so grateful that you have taken the time to post this review, for our team this is vital feedback that is needed, to both motivate and to ensure we keep up our standard levels. Nick has a great sense of humour and we are pleased that your family enjoyed it and between him and Zack they do make a formidable team! We are also happy that you enjoyed your accommodation as you are the first guests to stay in our newly refurbished private house. We hope to see you all soon again for some "sun uppers" , I think we will have to adopt this term our selves!

We had the pleasure of spending 3 nights here at the beginning of August 2013 and I must say - If you want to be treated like royalty - this is the place to go!
The lodge is truly awesome. From our welcome and check-in, Faith made us feel right at home. Our accommodation was superb with a huge deck complete with a hammock and a plunge pool overlooking the river.
Our ranger, Nick and tracker, Zak were amazing at finding the animals for us on our game drives. Apart from all the animals we saw, we were treated to some exceptional sightings and close encounters with 4 out of the Big 5 (the leopard was unfortunately nowhere to be seen). Nick gave us an excellent lesson in star-gazing one evening and the next day Nick and Zak took us on a guided walk which was a thrilling experience.
The food is really fantastic, and Lauren, the resident chef, served us 5 star meals fit for kings! You will eat so well and between brunch, high tea and dinner, if you go hungry, it will be your own fault!
All the staff were so warm and friendly and the whole experience was so perfect and memorable, we can highly recommend staying here.
Ngiyabonga kakhulu!

Room Tip: The 'Honeymoon Suites' are wonderfully private and beautifully appointed.

My husband made my dream come true which was to see the BIG 5 for my 50th birthday. He booked us in for the weekend at the Amakhosi Safari Lodge and from there on my dream became a reality. From the moment we arrived we were treated like King and Queen. The staff namely "Pretty and Faith" were absolutelty wonderful and so friendly. The chalet we slept in overlooked the river where when laying swaying in the hammock on the deck we were treated to the tranquilty of bird calls, the bubbling river and wildlife drinking in the river. Absolute Paradise. The food was straight from a Kings kitchen.
We went on 4 Game drives and were enthralled to see 4 of the BIG 5. The herd of Elephants were being very evasive, but due to their brilliant skills our Game Ranger and Tracker, Kevin and Mandla took us through dense bush and over the mountains to have the Elephants walk right next to us (ABSOLUTELY AWESOME) Thankyou to all at Amakhosi for a never to be forgotten holiday of a lifetime. Henry & Cathy Schneider

We went to Amakhosi with our two teenagers and our best friends and their two teenagers and what a dream destination Amakhosi turned out to be!
It was so exciting to have our accommodations right by the river, literally a few meters away from where the animals came to drink! and all the antelopes and warthogs around our suites during the day and in the evenings.... and that was just in our lodge compound!
The game drives were thrilling!! We could have counted the eyelashes on the elephants and giraffes they were so close... and we felt absolutely comfortable and safe with our guide Nick and tracker Zak - they really were knowledgeable and informative of the wildlife around us... it was amazing to see them in action tracking the spoor as they lead us towards our sightings. The rhino and lion experience was WOW! and to think we had our sundowners in the same wilderness where these magnificent animals roamed freely.
The lodging is tastefully decorated and those big glass doors and windows were ideal for relaxing from our room and looking out onto the river and watching the antelopes come walking by our suite! We should have sat on our deck a little more and relaxed in the plunge pool outside our room or on that hammock - we'll just have to come back to do it all over again and also try out the new spa and health center soon to be completed.
The lodge managers Alvwyn and Sonya are just the best! So kind and accommodating, friendly and could not have done more to make our stay so memorable and so very special! And their staff are an image of them... always smiling and openly friendly, ready to help in any way... thank you all so much for your true and genuine hospitality. The meals were just to die for!! Lauren, the resident Chef at the lodge, is absolutely amazing... oh my! oh my! did we dine like kings! Breakfast overlooking the river and dinner under the stars... with such a delicious fare each and every day!
What a wonderful vacation we had and thanks to all the team at Amakhosi for making this a special moment in our lives that we will cherish forever.

Room Tip: any room is a good room!!

From the moment of our arrival until our departure we felt like royals! We stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed every minute of our stay.
As the houses have been described already in detail by previous commentators, there is nothing much I can add. Just to say that they are tastefully decorated with local artwork and constructed almost entirely with natural materials.
We loved our housemates, the bushbabies!
The service is outstanding, the staff extremely friendly, food is excellent...in short: everything is perfect.
Game drives where great. Our Ranger Kevin and the tracker Mandle showed us the most stunning views. As we have been on many safaris before, we where not under pressure to tick off the big five and could enjoy watching the Zebras, Giraffes, Buffalos, Rhinos, Antilopes and birds......I was able to take some excellent photos.
Thank you to the entire staff who made our stay a very special one.

Room Tip: .All houses are well placed overlooking the river
