We traveled from Colombia to do route 66 and we just wanted to take a picture on the bike at 8:00pm and the owner didn’t let us he was screaming move over now! You have to leave! An iconic motel on route 66 not friendly with bikers?

Quite the contrary. We own motorcycles and we are VERY motorcycle friendly here.

Your group of about 10 extremely loud bikes showed up at about 9:10pm as we were attempting to check in our last guest in. We normally have wonderful motorcycle groups stay with us and also just visit during the day, and none of them have ever displayed that actions that your group did. Your actions were very disrespectful to our property and to our guests who were trying to enjoy their stay here. We did not "scream" at you, we merely had to speak loud to help you understand us over the noise of your motorcycles. We politely asked you to move on, which you did. The maneuvers displayed by your group the next morning was also a first for us. We've never had someone drive under the sign (between our vintage car parked there and our lobby building) at road speed before, a move we would consider dangerous and stupid.

It's our recommendation to your group that if you wish to endear yourself to the Route 66 community, that you show a little more respect for the properties you visit.

Having lived in, then spending most of my summers literally 2 blocks from The Blue Swallow( my grandparents lived in Tucumcari), I always wanted to stay here. Never had an opportunity until now. Well worth the wait. Comfy bed, a retro phone, with instructions on how to use said phone. Nice touch by the way. Not to mention a garage to park your car if it will fit. The bath with walk-in shower is nice with the original tiny octagon tiles. You really feel welcome, the give you a guided tour when you check in. A nice gift shop in the lobby, along with coffee and hot water. There was some breakfast bars available as well. All in all very glad I decided to stay when visiting this time. Thanks.

We had a fantastic stay at the Blue Swallow Motel! Truly a step back in time and so much fun. Of note: The owners consider it a serious offense to drink your wine out of the little plastic cups in the rooms, and they are more than happy to provide nice glasses for you to use during your stay. :)
We'll definitely be back someday!

Planning a western portion of Route 66, and the Blue Swallow was mentioned many a time as THE place to stay in Tucumcari. A cruise through the website and it really looked like a great place to stay. So, I took the advice to book early, as they book up in summer months. My stay wasn't until October.
What a treasure the Blue Swallow is. The neon is just amazing. The quaint painted chairs and table outside our room was the perfect place to sip coffee the next morning in our Blue Swallow mugs (bought some to take home). Our garage was painted with Mater and Lightning McQueen, and our GMC Yukon XL fit with 1/2" to spare. The Chenille bedspread of super soft and reminded me of a time gone by. A great night sleep in a comfortable bed and great coffee in the office in the morning. Stocked up on all of my Blue Swallow souvenirs and had bought my first Route beer. Met Max the cat, who acts like a dog and the old guard, Bessie. And yes, the Mueller's are just as friendly as the pets!

We stayed for one night in the family suite at the Blue Swallow. We were made to feel really welcome and we ended up wanting to stay longer. The Blue Swallow and Tucumcari really are special places. It’s wonderful to sit out enjoying a cool drink in the evening as the sun goes down and the neon comes on. You cannot take a bad picture of this place and most shots on your camera will look like a picture postcard.
There are lots of good places to eat with just a short walk down the road - but like many places in the USA, early dining is a must as places close early also.
This place is family run and they really care, small things like coffee ready in the morning and mosquitoe sprays available to use if needed! We saw toads and lizards whilst we sat in the evening and the fifties vibe of the hotel is perfect in every detail. Can’t wait to go back!
