My boyfriend, Stephen and I stayed here on our two week road trip of route 66, and was one of the most memorable on the entire route.

We got there a little earlier than scheduled, but were given the warmest welcome by Kevin and Nancy. We sat putting the world to rights outside our room with a cold route 66 soda watching the sunset. The nice thing about the blue swallow is that you get a real sense of community; lots of other guests were doing the same and we got to chat to everyone staying that night!

The room has been fully restored to what it was when route 66 was in it's prime and it was great to be able to experience it 'as it was'. It was extremely clean and pleasant, just what we needed after a long day on the road.

Kevin and Nancy really go that extra mile for you; our taxi for dinner didn't turn up so Kevin took us down personally in his beautiful vintage car (i'm sorry I'm rubbish with makes!!) and even offered to pick us up afterwards.

When we got back, all the guest were gathered round the campfire for s'mores… i'd brought my own marshmallows from Disney which Kevin tried but have to say theirs were far better!

Thankyou for a wonderful stay, we will certainly be back when we do Route 66 in the future (a long way a way sadly!) but cannot recommend this place enough. Book well in advance so you are not disappointed!! You can even purchase a replica room key (which we did) to remind you of your stay!

Room Tip: All the rooms are good, each one has a garage for your car!

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experiences. It is a pleasure when we have the opportunity to serve as backup shuttle service when necessary, and glad you enjoyed your ride in "The Chief". Although we don't have a campfire every night, we had our first S'more Night of the season just the other night, and it is always fun.

Thanks for making the Blue Swallow your home away from home during your journey across Route 66.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying the night at The Blue Swallow Motel recently and it did not disappoint! It was a step back in time but with better mattresses. Kevin and Nancy do a great job keeping this icon of Route 66 in tip top shape. The rooms were clean and comfortable and their hospitality was top notch. Staying at The Blue Swallow is a must do for anyone traveling Route 66 or just passing through Tucumcari on I40.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Blue Swallow during my Route 66 Trip, January 2014. The new Owners are very nice and friendly, thanks Kevin for the smalltalk and Nancy for the Cupcake in the morning :). Kevin gave me a small introduction to the Room and the Gas Heater, everything works very well.
The comfort of the Bed was perfekt and as stated on the headline i had a cosy night.
This place is absolutely charming, from the room Deco to the Murals and the Carports decorated with the Cars theme. All fittes very well together and you can see that the Owners have put their passion into it to bring the Place back to his former Glory.
High recommended to all who understand to take this place for what it is, a true Timecapsule to stay over night on Route 66.
Greatings from Germany, Andreas

Fantastic combination of retro charm with modern comforts (like fantastic sheets and mattresses). Our family of six loved our stay there. It is hard to imagine a better retro motel.

One reviewer complained that too much was 1950s. Yes, the bathrooms are small, but they are very clean and functional…bathrooms weren't palatial mid-century. They have modern TVs sitting on top of the retro B&W cabinet TV. The garage murals are pure delight.

Love the Blue Swallow Motel. We will be staying there whenever driving through.

We really enjoyed our stay at this motel during our Route 66 trip (we were here Dec. 30th). The owners (and their "kids") are extremely friendly. They took us to show us the room we would be in before they would take our money. This place is absolutely charming. They have carports decorated with the Cars theme. We smiled and laughed the entire time we were there. In this day and age of living in the fast lane, it sure was nice to step back in time and remember simpler times. The rooms are clean and come with every amenity one could possibly need (plus a rotary phone and a National Geographic from the 1940s). The bed was one of the most comfortable of our entire trip. The muffin and coffee in the morning were delicious. If in the area, we will definitely stay here again.

Friendly owners, great place. They've really worked hard to make this more than just a roadside motel. The murals in the garages, yes garages! are great fun. The rooms are decorated in character in 50's style. Small rooms, but comfy and clean.
The dinosaur museum in town is well worth a visit.
You won't be disappointed by the Blue Swallow, well worth staying here.

My wife and I were driving back to Texas from northern New Mexico, and it was getting dark when we arrived in Tucumcari. We saw the Blue Swallow Neon and the 58 chevy out front. We pulled in and the owner greeted us as we exited our car, with a friendly smile and a warm welcome. We had only planned to look, but the warm reception made us decide to stay in this very reasonably priced hotel. The rooms were restored to original verses being updated with more modern fixtures, which made the stay memorable. The room even had the old dial type phone, and the bed was very comfortable with nice sheets and comforter. We felt like we were staying there in the 50's. We loved it and will surely return on our next trip.
