Traveling around Tucumcari is one thing, but finding a decent room is another. For under $100.00 this is the best place you could ever want to stay, with all your needs! Classic & restored motel along old route 66. We looked around town, an saw motels for 29.99 (YUCK). We are traveling with the history and enjoyment of feeling safe an having a clean room with great memories. We will stay every time we are in the Tucumcari , next time for at least a few days. Kevin an wife Nancy, owners, offer one fun, friendly stay. A MUST STAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for the Indian fire cracker special !!!!!!!!

In planning our trip from Texas to Santa Fe, we stumbled upon the Blue Swallow Motel located on the old Route 66. From what we could see from the internet, it looked like the perfect stopping point and we were not disappointed. If you are looking for a spot where you can step back in time, this place is it . . . from the cozy, comfortable room and individual garage for your car to the warm and gracious greeting from the hosts (Kevin and Nancy Mueller), the Blue Swallow Motel is, indeed, a magical return to a time long passed. Our room was impeccable and our host's directions for dining and information certainly spot-on. Though short, our stay could not have been more complete, beginning with s'mores shared with the other guests over a campfire at night and ending with pastries and hot, fresh coffee together in the morning. Rarely have our we stumbled upon such camaraderie and pleasantry while travelling. As we pulled away and the neon sign slipped from view, we took a deep breath and shook our heads - driving away from the 1940's and heading back into 2013 was not going to be easy. We will definitely return to the Blue Swallow Motel someday.

Room Tip: We found out as we were leaving that they have a "suite" - a room with a bit more room. O...

This is a clean safe retro motel experience for those who want to revisit the past. We have stayed here three times now and the atmosphere is all about the neon the way it was. Everything in our rooms was in place, working, clean and perfect for a tired traveller. The heat/air conditioning and flat screens are modern but everything else is a working restoration of something memorable from an age gone by. The most delightful part of the experience are the owners Nancy and Kevin. They have taken the time and effort to restore and preserve this piece of American history but most importantly they take the time to chat and ensure you do Get Your Kicks on Route 66. I hope others in Tucumcari and along the route see them for the great example they are. Five retro stars for you Nancy and Kevin. Well worth the price!

Hotel was safe, clean, cozy with nice vintage touches. Owners are very welcoming. We will stay again. Loved the beds! A real feel of the old days on Route 66. Make sure you take pictures of the neon sign at night

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Blue Swallow Motel. My husband and I just did the old Rt. 66 trip, from Chicago to Santa Monica, so staying here was ideal. We had the opportunity to talk with the owners, Nancy and Kevin, who were delightful, and learned the history of the motel. Our room was excellent - super clean and authentically decorated. They have done a beautiful job at restoring each unit. If you go by there, walk the grounds of the motel and look in the garages if they are open. Each one has murals painted on the walls or are decorated with memorabilia. In the morning, stop in at the front desk to enjoy hot beverages (coffee, tea and hot chocolate) and homemade muffins. Also, it as a short walk to several good places to eat dinner. We were so glad that we chose the Blue Swallow Motel and highly recommend.

My husband and I had booked this hotel as part of our Route 66 tour. We were held-up in Amarillo and were not due to arrive until late so I left a voicemail message to let the owners know. When we arrived they had left me a note to say that what room we were in and to check-in in the morning from 6am.

The sign was unfortunately turned-off when we arrived, but it was still awesome. The rooms were great, but there was no Wifi. You get your own garage with your room which was painted by the owner with Route 66 murals. We were not able to park in ours as there was a trailer blocking in when we arrived.

We had a very comfortable night, but make sure you eat early as all but two places to eat were shut when we arrived at 10.30pm.

The next morning, we checked in/out at 7am and spoke to a friend of the owners, as they were away, who introduced us to the dog and cat, washed our coffee cups up and allowed us to refill them and take some homemade muffins which were delicious as we were in a hurry to get to our next stop, Santa Fe, by 11am.

If you are traveling on Route 66 do not I mean do not pass this up! We arrived to Tucumcari late in the evening as our next leg of the journey. The neon was lit up there were people sitting outside of their rooms this place was fully booked on a Wednesday night. After checking in and meeting the owners who are seriously the nicest and gracious people we parked our car in our very own garage(how ridiculously cool).

Our room was phenomenal with everything we could ask for on a retro style road trip. The bed was amazing the blue swallow blanket was a great touch. The tv (which we didn't even use) was built up retro style with a small sitting nook. The bathroom was a BIG upgrade for us after staying at the wigwam the night before. The room had wifi and a guide to Tucumcari, did I forget to mention that it was immaculately clean? We went to dinner then came back and hung out on our front porch that evening.

In the morning the owners had coffee and muffins made for everyone. They truly love what they do and have made the Blue Swallow a must see on Route 66. If you want that old world experience do not pass this up and book early!
