“Restful Stop In New Mexico”

Stay here always on my trips through New Mexico. The new owners, Kevin and Nancy, have done a good job remodeling the Blue Swallow. It is peaceful and offers a great nights rest. Great for a motorcycle traveler with the garage next to the room. Friendly atmosphere and relaxing visits in the evening with other guests.

On my trip on Old Route 66 I stopped for the night at Blue Swallow Motel. What a great place to rest my head. The owners were super friendly and the rooms was cozy. I slept great!

The neon sign at night transported me back in time and I loved all the wonderful painted murals.

If you're traveling on Rt 66 (or just thru NM) the Blue Swallow Motel is a wonderful, clean, friendly and comfortable place to rest.

Room Tip: They are dog friendly so make sure to call ahead and request a dog room

This is the real deal. So much of Route 66 is 1) either gone, or 2) a tourist trap. The Blue Swallow lets you step back in time, with quaint motel rooms and garage parking right next to your room. The owners are doing it right.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Blue Swallow. It is a blast back to the 50's and utterly charming. Beds were really comfortable and rooms were wonderfully decorated in mid-century style. The owners can't do enough to make your stay a really pleasant one. I can't see being on the old Route 66 without staying there. It's definitely a must.

This authentic Route 66 motel was a great treat. The bed was soo comfortable and after full days of driving and discovering Route 66 sites it was great to come home to a great bed to sleep in and perfect glider chairs in front of our rooms to chill out in!

The whole vibe of Blue Swallow, the rooms, the neon signs, the mural on the wall made for a perfect Route 66 experience. The locals were friendly and Nancy and Kevin were very welcoming to ensure a perfect stay. Oh and you wake up to coffee and donuts - perfect treat before hitting the road!

Thanks Kevin and Nancy for a memorable trip!

Stayed at the Blue Swallow three years ago and swore we would never go back. Heard they had new owners and had improved so we gave it another try. While the new owners have their hearts in the right place, they are still missing the mark. I appreciate how expensive and labor intensive it can be to repair and refurbish this old Route 66 landmark, but cannot recommend it.

The rooms are cleaner and new (but noisy) mattresses have been installed. Plumbing would never pass code. A sink with a separate faucet for cold/hot water without a single outlet is a major scalding hazard. I do not recommend children stay here.

Example;

While in our room, we heard voices talking like they were in the next room. As the rooms have carports between them, we assumed they were outside. It appears the owners have put doors on the old carports and are using them as workshops and the sound was coming thru the air conditioner mounted on the wall. When I investigated, I was asked if the "paint smell" bothered me. Storing paint and painting next to a obviously poorly vented guest room-an obvious safety violation and a poor decision.

I do wish the owners well and hope they keep improving the property, but for now, it's a pass.

Thank you for your review. Just to clarify this specific experience, there is a workshop next to this room. That night, around 8:45pm, I was testing a piece of neon to replace a pice broken in a hailstorm the night before, and explaining about it to another guest who was interested. We were talking about it, and obviously were overheard more than we intended. I aplogized when you told me we were disturbing you, and closed the shop immediately. There was no further discussion on the matter.

As for the vintage, two-faucet sink, they are original, and are part of what makes the Blue Swallow unique, and a blast from the past. The water is hot, but not at scalding level. They require a different washing technique, using the stopper and filling the basin (as in the old days), but again, that is part of experiencing travel the way it was in the heydey of Route 66. In addition, with our listing on the National Historic Register, it is our intention to keep the Blue Swallow as authentically vintage as possible.

Our Route 66 road trip had dozens of highlights... you can't help but find them. When it comes to motels on the Mother road there are one or two that stand out. The Blue Swallow is one - Kevin and Nancy have lifted the bar from our last stay a year ago, genuinely friendly, down-to-earth hosts, enthusiastic about their guests enjoying their classic motel.
