I travel Old Route 66 a few times each year and I really enjoy my stay in Tucumcari. I like the clean rooms with great towels, good water pressure, nice flat screen TV's and the best beds of the whole trip. Motel Safari is a classy Icon of the Mother Road. Stop in and meet the hosts Gail & Richard.

Room Tip: I have stayed several times and like each room very well. The suite was great.

Great place and very clean. Motel is really looked after and modern. We highly recommend it. The lady who runs the place was very helpful. The town itself is very quiet. Certain restaurants are not open on a Sunday. Which meant there was only the Lizard open which was pretty average. Tucumcari is a very quiet town.

Room Tip: Its a very quiet town. Motel is in the middle of anything.

Stayed there on 13th Sept 2013 on our trip along Route 66.
This was the only place throughout our trip (We stayed in 28 different lots of accommodation) where we were escorted to our room and shown where everything was and how it worked. I thought this was customer service at its best. The lady was also very helpful in telling us where to go and how to get there.
Top marks!

Room Tip: Any one is fine

Great rooms, done in kinda retro chic, really looked good, better than the website photos. Great towels as opposed to those that are so thin and rough a fly couldn't dry off! Appliances included a small coffee pot, a retro radio that accepts CDs and a 36 inch flat screen with basic cable. Didn't see a hair dryer. They claim to have the best beds in Tucumcari and they very well may. They were way above average for a motel in a town of 5000. Not the cheapest room on the strip but well done, quiet, safe. Wifi is password protected and consistent. Was able to stream Sirius over my laptop to listen to a game. The owners were very friendly and thorough in answering my questions before I booked the room. I would recommend it, especially if you want a little nostalgia over the big chain motels that are there.

Room Tip: I was in 35 or 36, across the parking lot from the wifi router in the often and had no problem.

Driving from flagstaff to Kansas City, we stopped in the forgotten town of tucumcari, New Mexico for an overnight. We got off at the first exit for tumcumcari from route 40 and drove through a boarded up ghost town, thinking we may have to keep driving. To our surprise we stopped at the motel safari after reading TA reviews. We took their Wanda Jackson king suite for $93- which was probably the most expensive room in town! It was great! New king bed , sitting room with big screen tv, refrigerator, microwave eating area, new tile shower, great glass sink, super retro photographs and decor. Worth every penny! Great night sleep, great room. Highly recommend! Hope tucumcari comes back someday, from the looks of the photos, it was a great stop on the Route 66 travel adventure.

We stayed here for one night on the way through Tucumcari. Received a very warm and friendly welcome from Gail. She gave us some leaflets and a bit of info on the town. Is a great place to walk about- although there are a lot of abandoned motels and shops it all added to the charm. At night some of the neon lights are on which makes a great sight- shame not everyone seemed to have them on or not on for long. This motel was as squeaky clean as they claim, comfy beds and the perfect place to rest. Highly recommended.

Wow, what a town, what a motel, what a trip down Route 66. Make this your stop at Tucumcari tonight. Great room, quality linens and helpful owner equal a wonderful stay. We were referred here by another historic hotel owner as they were full. Be sure to wander the strip after dark and enjoy the neon lights.
