We had stayed at the Blue Swallow and enjoyed it very much. Since they were full, we stayed at the Motel Safari. Retro but doesn't feel old. Very fresh, very clean. Great value. Comfortable bed and bedding. Great night's sleep. Now, if they could get a good restaurant in town...

Our room was great and I highly recommend the motel. However, we were a bit disappointed by a lukewarm welcome from the manageress (in comparison to the friendliness at some other Route 66 motels, e.g. Wagon Wheel Motel in Missouri, Saddle Ranch in Santa Fe, etc. all of which were outstanding). However, it didn't detract much from a very pleasant stay in an iconic Route 66 motel. We enjoyed sitting outside our room reading a book, drinking a beer, enjoying the fresh New Mexico air.

This place is in the middle of nowhere . We stayed when we were doing Route 66 . Its everything you would expect for a motel . Rooms were clean so happy with that . Town is small . It was 105 degrees out when we stayed and the owner came over and asked us why we were sunbathing in this heat . We explained as we were from Scotland we make the most of the sun LOL . Would stay again if passing through .

Room Tip: Being in New Mexico you HAVE to carry photo ID no matter WHAT age you are if you want alcohol . They...

After many nights in sterile motels, this was a real treat. The rooms are small, but lovingly remodeled just enough--new carpet, paint, beds, tv, etc. But otherwise, it is just like it was in the 60's. Reading the story of the motel, only three owners before current owners, and much of the furniture is original. Obviously, the motel was well built at the time, and taken care of by its prior owners as many of the old motels in Tucumcari are not worth saving which is so sad. It is heartbreaking to drive thru town and see all the closed up stores and shops. Two thumbs up for this place. p.s. Blue Willow looked interesting too, and was totally filled the same weekday night, but we were happy where we were.

We stayed at this motel for 1 night on our way to Arizona. The owners were very pleasant & helpful when we checked in. They walked us to our room & explained everything about the room. The room was decorated in a 1960 style with updated comforts (AC, king bed, flat screen tv, etc). The owner also suggested a restaurant & gave us a 10% off coupon for the restaurant. The restaurant was very good.

Stayed at the safari whilst driving west on Route 66. The motel was a pleasant surprise having been staying in large chain motels, it is as it says squeaky clean with all the amenities required for a very Comfortable stay and the bed is big and very very comfortable.

Couldn't get into the blue swallow so they suggested the safari across the street. Authentic Route 66 motor hotel down to the furniture. As has been said, beds are unbelievable especially after driving all day. Extremely clean and surprisingly quite. Would stay here again. No pool.
