“Classic Route 66 Motel”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

My husband and I truly enjoyed the Motel Safari. We stayed one night in Tucumcari on our way to AZ and luckily found this motel on TripAdvisor. Why stay in a chain motel when you can experience a 50s style mom and pop style accommodation? The owners were extremely friendly and provided great recommendations on where to eat and grab a cocktail after a long day of driving. We enjoyed hearing the history of the motel and Tucumcari and explored the Route 66 strip of the town. You can see that the residents are slowly restoring the town to its glory days. Our room was spotless, the decor straight out of the 50s, and the bed and pillows very comfortable. There are chairs outside the door and a patio for people watching Rates are very reasonable and the motel is unique!

This was by far the best overnight stay on our 10 day trip out west. The appointments were beautiful with a super comfortable bed with high quality linens. The hotel owner called us to make sure we had the directions we needed. She also came into the room and showed us how to use the tv, heat and Internet. Didn't think this was such a big deal until we stayed in another property in another state where it took 2 calls for the TV and 2 for Internet! Did I mention it was immaculate?

It's rated # 2 on Trip Advisor but I'll never stay anywhere else in Tucumcari!

Pleasantly surprised at the comfort & cleanliness. Management was very helpful. We arrived fairly late and needed something to eat. They arranged for a local restaurant to come pick us up & bring us back after our meal. We even had a chance to relax on the retro patio that night...right by one of the coolest motel signs on the Mother Road. Awesome stay!

Stayed one night on the way to Santa Fe, NM. Old Route 66 motel with rooms in appropriate retro style. Not tons of amenities--watch out, no hair dryer!--but very nostalgic. It was one of the most immaculately kept motels that I have ever stayed in. Management was friendly and laid back and even loaned me a hair dryer. We will definitely stay there when back in the area. A cool place. P.S. Most comfortable bed in our 2 week vacation--WOW!

Stayed here overnight whilst heading West. Large room which was spotlessly clean. A lot of care has obviously gone into maintaining the retro feel of this original Route 66 Motel. A classic and a real pleasure to stay here. Owner was really friendly and informative.

Room Tip: Plenty of Route 66 neon so worth a walk after dark

A true labor of love on route 66. Small, quirky in a cool way and quaint. We are heading back through in December and will stay again for sure. Unexpected pleasure was the great beds. Close to great food. Visiting with owner was wonderful ad well. As in early hotel travel she walks you to your room and shows you around at check-in. See you soon Safari!

It is wonderful to find an old mid-century motel, just past the tourist court era, restored to a habitable level. Cleaner and better kept than almost every 2-star chain hotel. Many old furnishings, but a great bed, great flat-screen, modern climate control with a remote thermostat, wireless, and spotlessly clean. I would've avoided this place without all the great reviews on Tripadvisor, and they are right! Gail, at the front desk, is very helpful as well.
