“Easy to find, quiet”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

We'd never before been to Taos so weren't sure what to expect -- we'd picked this motel based on its low price and certainly were pleased with that. We arrived v-e-r-y late (after midnight), had called to let them know, and they were kind and welcoming. The room was clean and quiet -- nothing fancy but we didn't need that. The motel is on the main drag (Paseo) as are many hotels, and it would've hurt to find out we'd spent more money on another hotel equally located, so that is a BIG win for then Whitten Inn.

We have a young child with mobility issues, so loved getting to park right in front of our first-floor room.

They offer a fair breakfast which is always nice. If I were to return to Taos this would be a fair choice for a hotel, although I always prefer to rent a house if possible ....

I have just read your review and wanted to thank you. We have just purchased the hotel and are in the process of remodeling and updating it both inside and out. We are also changing the name to the Taos Valley Lodge, in case you are ever in the area again. We are a work in progress, and we have a long way to go, but it will be a wonderful place to stay next time your visiting Taos. Again, thank you for your review, it is very important to us.

Sincerely,

Diane H.

This is definitely a two star motel, but for a two-star, the price was very fair, the rooms were clean and decent, and the staff was quite friendly and helpful. It's a mile from the Plaza, and if you're walking it is not a scenic or interesting trip.

Thank you for your review. I realize you were here some time ago, but we have just purchased the hotel and as part of the transition, we are replying to the past reviews, to let you know what we are doing. We are remodeling and updating the hotel both inside and out. The lobby has been updated with a new check in program and new computers, so no reservations will be lost. All the carpet and furniture is being replaced. We have a lot to do but are very excited about the outcome. We are also in the process of changing the name to the Taos Valley Lodge. Hopefully, if you are ever in the area again, you will come and stay with us. Again, thank you for your review, it has been very helpful to us.

Sincerely,

Diane H.

I spent an entire week at the Whitten Inn in Taos NM and was treated like royalty...esp. by the manager Natasha. Clean, quiet, perfection. I highly recommend a long or short say at this economical friendly Inn.

Room Tip: back rooms are lovely

The staff was very polite and sincerely helpful. However, the hotel needs some repair and updating. And don't bother paying additional money for the rooms with fireplaces because the fireplaces provide barely discernible flames and add no warmth or charm.

The room was large and clean, with a gas fireplace and we were allowed to have our dog along. The rooms looked to be recently remodeled, with fresh paint and a new TV. The hot tub is huge and was well-cared for (clean). The breakfast was typical continental with a self-made waffle machine available. This hotel could work on frequency in attending to the breakfast room. The trash was overflowing both mornings and the key item....coffee...was often out. Also, the external halls are clean, but aging and need some attention.

Thank you for such a nice review. I know it's been some time since you were here, but we have just purchased the hotel and wanted to let you know what we are doing here. We are remodeling and updating the hotel both inside and out. It will still be pet friendly, as this is a very important feature. Also, all the carpet and furniture is being replaced. All hotels have to do these updates on a regular basis, so it will still have all the nice qualities but cleaner and nicer. The name is also being changed to the Taos Valley Lodge. Hopefully, you will come and stay with us if you are ever in the area. Again, thank you for your review, it is very important to us.

We travel quite a lot for business and pleasure, but our favorite destination is Taos. We love the people and the skiing...Of course we always stay here at the Whitten Inn when we're in town and its not just because of the friendly staff or the clean rooms, not to mention the fabulous heated indoor pool and hot tub, but the signs that they always have up which attracted us to this hotel in the first place. We think that they are clever and lots of fun. We were here just last week and we got to fip a coin to see if we could get a half priced room on their already reasonable prices. And a month ago we sang a song to get a $20 dollar discount which the kids loved doing. Everytime we're here its always something new we're excited to see what they come up with for next week. If your in taos, make this your hotel for good fun, great service and clean rooms. They really do make you feel like your at home.

This hotel was average and you can tell they are updating the property. The breakfast they offered was excellent. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. We had a two night stay with no worries. Also, the price was VERY reasonable. Thank you.
