“Great family hotel in Taos- 2 story suites with breakfast!”
Reviewed January 11, 2011

Wonderful Taos value for a family with kids. We stayed in a two story room. Lower floor has table and chairs for 4, kitchen area, murphy pull down bed, sofa and chair. Upper level had a king bed, table for two and a bathroom. We had plenty of space for in town family to meet in our room. I don't know if sofa was pull out but I'm not sure if a pull out would fit with the murphy bed down. Beware if you share room with older kids and/or other adults- you must walk through the master suite to get to the bathroom. This was not an issue for us, but could be interesting you needed privacy in the upstairs bedroom.

Full cook to order breakfast was included with 4 menu options- cereal and grapefruit, panckes and bacon, french toast and bacon or eggs, hasbrowns and bacon. Even kids get a huge breakfast. Free soup (self serve) in the restaurant from 4-6pm. Dinner was a bargin also. Soup and salad bar, choice of several entrees, mashed potatoes, a veggie and a glass of wine for 8.95.

Wonderful service by all employees. Everyone went out of their way to help us.

Good location. Nice chinese restaurant next door and movie theater a few doors down. Wal-mart is across the street and the Taos Plaza is a few minutes by car. Rare value in Taos and kids loved it. We paid less for our large room than we would have paid at much smaller rooms in other hotels. We will stay again.

From the very beginning, the management was not very friendly to me and my friends who had traveled there to ski, and was giving us a terrible time for wanting to split up the rooms and use different credit cards. Hot breakfast was good, but the staff, cleanliness, professionalism, and consumer oriented behavior was not acceptable. I will look to stay at the Best Western Kachina in Taos if I ever travel there again.

We stayed here based on the fact that it had a full served breakfast and we thought it would be nice to have something different than the standard continental breakfasts that we had for the rest of the trip. It was not worth it. The hallways smelled like old stale smoke and our youngest kid plugged his nose on our way to breakfast in the morning. We had a large 2 story room with a king bed and bathroom upstairs and a queen wallbed and pullout couch in the downstairs sitting room. The downstairs air conditioner had so much mold on it that we couldn't use it without making the air smell worse. There was a small 18" window upstairs that we opened to try to air out the room. The downstairs room had a door that opened up into the outdoor pool courtyard. We kept that open as much as possible.
The only good part about this hotel was the pool. It was outdoors, very clean and goes to 9 ft deep! The kids ranked it as the best pool of the whole trip but the worst hotel.

To get to the point, my exception related to the free Wireless service. The reception was terrible, even when I went to the lobby to try to get closer to the server. I called their technical support but the guy wanted to change my settings and I knew my computer was not at fault. It was fine for me to do without internet for a day!!!! Others may not like it.

Aside from that, the reception staff were extremely nice and very well organized. Why not, they were women!! This is an older hotel and quite spread out. There was surprisingly no noise around our room, even though it was located across from a stairway. I found it interesting that this property still has smoking rooms and noticed that on the first floor there are smoking rooms across from non-smoking rooms. So there is a smoky odor in the hallways. It's time for Quality to move forward to the 21st Century!

The location was very convenient to the Plaza and Pueblo areas. There is a Walmart across the street at the next traffic light. There is also a great coffee shop across the street which was voted number one is some newspaper poll. I think it is called Taos Java?? Owned and run by two women I think. The coffee is roasted by them and is very very good. I had to wait in line and the others were all regulars.

The hotel breakfast is in their restaurant. In its day, it must have been a happening place. Full service cooked to order breakfast is included with the room price. There were several local regulars eating as well.

The bottom line is this is a fine place to stay as long as you make sure you get a room far away from the smokers and internet is not a life and death requirement!

We stayed the night of July 31st. We arrived to a friendly clerk at the front desk. Hotel was quiet and we received the type of room we requested. I was very pleased with this hotel. Not a 5 star by any means, but a good hotel on the night we passed through.

The rooms were quiet, large, and well decorated. Fridge and micro were a bonus, as was the made-to-order breakfast: 4 choices including one that had 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, tea/coffee and oj.

They have the biggest pool I've ever seen at a motel, and a really nice GRASSY area with cafe type picnic tables that are shady in the morning and late afternoon. You get a lovely view of the mountains...I watched the sunrise over the Sangre de Cristo.

It's on the edge of town (if you're coming from Santa Fe), within walking distance of the Visitor Center. You have to drive into the historic district but there is plenty cheap and even free parking available down there...we never had trouble finding a spot even during peak hours.
