“Awful treatment of customers”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

Really liked nothing about this hotel. The staff was rude as soon as we walked in and things went downhill from there. Staff wasted about 3 hours of our vacation time trying unsuccessfully to fix multiple mistakes. We will never return. Fortunately found the El Monte Sagrado nearby which was an absolute joy with great food, pool, sauna, in-room whirlpools (that work!), comfortable beds and first class staff and service.

Room Tip: Do not think it has good rooms. I would not expect much from breakfast either.

This property is back in a small, quiet neighborhood. A short distance from the plaza. The facility is charming and comfortable. Very clean. Chad, the resident manager, and Rose who made our breakfast several mornings were both very helpful and welcoming with a lot of great ideas for our stay. Every room is unique. Loved talking with all the other tenants and gathered some good ideas for things to see around the area. Rooms were very clean and the staff very attentive to even the smallest needs. Would definitely stay here again!

We had never been to NM and found this B&B in Taos online. All great reviews are true. Chad was great, location was quiet, comfortable, and cozy--fireplace in room was wonderful. Breakfast was good each morning, and we had plenty of suggestions on what to do each day and where to eat from Chad and other guests. This was a perfect vacation, and we highly recommend this B&B to anyone interested in a relaxing getaway in a great location. Our stay could not have been better!!!

Spent 3 nights at the end of September at the Palacio de Marquesa. Located in a secluded neighborhood only a ten minute walk to the Plaza. Arrived early afternoon and the room was ready. Each of the rooms is different. I stayed in the Blue Room off the patio area. Room was large with plenty of closet space, a comfortable bed and good sized bathroom. Amenities included CD music, small refrigerator with bottled water, iron and a working fireplace. The public space and breakfast area were comfortable with large leather couches and chairs. Wifi is available here. There is also a small area with cookies and complimentary beverages. The dining table was large and provided an opportunity for conversation. Rosie, the cook was my host for the weekend. She was warm, helpful and a great cook. Each morning featured a different hot meal. Also available were juices and hot and cold cereals. The grounds were spacious and peaceful, great for reading or conversation. In addition there is plenty of parking and a small area with exercise equipment.
A tip to consider. Although only a ten minute walk to the plaza, there is a free parking area at the end of Montoya and Kit Carson Blvd. Park there and walk to the plaza. That walk is less than five minuted. Parking in the plaza area can be tough. This B&B has recently been bought by a hotel group. I hope they don't make any major changes because the place will lose its charm. All it needs is a little TLC around the outside areas.

Room Tip: I believe the website has photos of the rooms.

Travelin' Jack knows comfort....and he has once again discovered a Gem of a Pet-Friendly facility..this time an historic Taos B&B called Palacio de Marquesa. Just a quick note here...in case the name doesn't ring a bell..that's because it recently changed ownership and name. Previously known as Casa De Las Chimineas (house of chimneys), this fine historic lodging option has graced Taos for many years and taken care of many guests...including the 4-footed variety. Now the ever-lovely B&B is owned by New Mexico's culturally iconic hotel group, The Heritage Hotels & Resorts....the B&B will undertake a renovation soon enhancing its even current great setting.

But Travelin' Jack needed to test it out himself, so off we went to Taos to see if luxury really does find itself in a Taos B&B. And we did!

From personalized greeting at the (massive) double wood front door entryway...we were whisked inside the main house area and given an overview and tour by the GM. Breakfast time was set up for us at our convenience for the next morning...and then we were let loose to enjoy the various nooks and crannies and courtyards and fountains found throughout this lovely casa.

We over-nighted in a lovely adjoining suite that included two large and cozy bedrooms, one with a King, and one with two Queens. A joining doorway allowed us the flexibility of opening the rooms up together...with a cozy sitting and reading area bringing the two bedroom suites together nicely. Southwest decor graced the rooms from fine art to rugs and tapestries to massive wood furniture. The feel of Taos eminates throughout. Each room had a Kiva fireplace for those cool mountain nights and a handy wet bar as well. Nicely outfitted bathrooms with very nice amenities and a very classy touch at the toilet.

But perhaps what Travelin' Jack liked the best in addition to all these nice touches....was the enclosed courtyard that the two rooms and full suite shared. We sat under the stars that evening...Jack dined on his doggy dinner in style in the tile courtyard...and then lounged while we enjoyed wine and cheese on this lovely summer evening.

After a cozy night's sleep, we enjoyed a Jack walk around the pet-friendly courtyard and lawn areas...only to be treated like a dog-star should be upon breakfast time! His own table was reserved for Travelin' Jack...providing special comfort and service by the staff for ALL members of the party. Nothing but the best for this traveling dog....and the 'gravy' on the pet-friendly welcome only got better as Jack was served his own breakfast plate of EGGS BENEDICT that was prepared (or as Jack would say pup-ared!) for him specially. Now THAT is above-and-beyond! And Travelin' Jack would not dog-dare not appreciate this special gesture...so he let them know his total appreciation while he demolished the food on his plate quite fast! The humans in the party enjoyed their breakfast repast as much as he did...with artistically designed fresh cut fruit, and a rich bold coffee complementing the delicious eggs benedict breakfast platter.

We were able to spend some nice leisure morning time meandering around the B&B, both indoors and out...and Travelin' Jack (and his human travel partners) were all made to feel totally at home in this beautiful setting.

We can't wait to go back to Palacio de Marquesa once they have completed their renovation...because we are interested to see how they can improve on an already fabulous lodging locale. But we are guessing that being a part of Heritage Hotels...they will without a doubt figure out how to do just that---on this already wonderful place.

Travelln' Jack gives Palacio a very strong 4 1/2 PAWS rating....holding out room for his ultimate 5 paws rating down the road a bit....when we return for our next visit post-renovation!

Room Tip: They have only a couple designated Pet-friendly rooms so make sure to RESERVE a pet-friendly room wh...

We stayed here for two nights of the Labor Day weekend. It is a well designed, low density complex, with spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and lots of closet space. It has ample open space on the property to encourage a very relaxing feel. Our host, Chad, was very nice and did everything he could to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. New ownership had taken over a few months before our stay, and we heard a lot about the upgrades that were going to be happening over the next few months. The condition at the time of our stay was acceptable, but not great. The workout room had very limited equipment; our room was advertised as having a steam shower, but that didn't work. Overall, it was just showing signs of wear. Of the two breakfasts we had, they were decent, but my wife and I were both a little hungry when we left. It's close to the center of town, but the streets have no sidewalks so it seemed easier (and safer) to drive than to walk. If they follow through on the planned renovations, I would go back. Overall, it was a nice place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a private (rather than a shared) patio. Ours was shared, and you had to go thro...

The Palacio de Marquesa is hidden away on a dead end side street and it is all to easy to miss the sign. However, the rooms and setting are wonderful. Yes, it is a very old adobe construction, but it is charming and reasonably well maintained. Our host. Chad, was most personable and was both helpful and knowledgeable. The biggest surprise was that he was an excellent cook. Chad had actually cooked and his huevos rancheros was quite tasty. His green chili salsa was devine. This leads to our only disappointment. On our second morning there was a "cook" hired to prepare our breakfast. The hired cook heated frozen waffles over which she poured canned strawberry sauce. I could have done as well in our rooms microwave.
