Clean, well kept. When everyone of that time period lived in small casitas Fechin built an enormous home. It was airy, cubby holes and cabinets everywhere. Carved wood, wooden floors, plumbing, state-of-the-art kitchen. Well worth a visit.

“Most memorable part of Taos visit”
Reviewed June 26, 2014

Wonderfully intimate art museum in an equally interesting historic building. And the warmth and the engagement of the staff can not be topped. In fact the head of the museum gave us a long personal tour since we arrived early and few others were around impressing us with her love of the place and charming us with her polished manner. We wouldn't go to Taos again without making this the first stop.

“An Experience”
Reviewed June 24, 2014

My husband and I had been traveling to Taos for about five years before we finally stopped in to see the Taos Art Museum at Fechin House. As we are both history buffs, we really enjoyed seeing the whole house and learning about its history. We started viewing the artwork, and were there about a month before their yearly gala and fundraiser. We purchased two drawings of Kachina, and then found a really beautiful pastel painting and put in the minimum bid on it. To our happy surprise, we learned in September of that year, 2012, that we were the only bidders of the painting, and that it was now ours! We received the painting shortly thereafter, and it hangs on the wall in our bedroom; something to see when we first wake in the morning. We have since visited again in 2013. The people who work/volunteer at the museum are friendly and informative; they obviously like what they're doing. We would consider visiting Fechin House a must for anyone who likes history, old houses, artwork and friendly people.

Love visiting house museums, but this was so much more! Loved the art AND the architecture. Such a special place, we loved our visit!

Hardly any homes and studios of great artists are open to visitors. Most have been demolished; many have been converted to other uses; few remain in or close to their original state and purpose. In New Mexico, Georgia O'Keeffe's home in Abiquiu can be visited. And when in Taos, Nicolai Fechin's home and studio is a must-see. Whether visiting because of a special exhibit of Fechin's work only or to see works of other artists, this home/studio with its unique architecture and furnishings provides insight into what it was like to work and live as an artist in Taos back in the early 1900s. For anyone interested in art, history, interior design or architecture - this is a most interesting and informative facility.
