“Unbeatable B&B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

With exceptional ownership comes an exceptional B&B. It would be difficult not to appreciate and enjoy all of the warmth and consideration you receive from Richard at his beautiful retreat.
We stayed in the Leghorn casa for a week and everything from start to finish was excellent. Richard makes sure you have a tour of the grounds, including the flower gardens, vegetable gardens as well as the lovely chicken pen area. He explains how any leftovers you have can be shared with chickens who will, in return, provide you with breakfast eggs every morning. It's a win win.
The casa is very inviting with it's warm colorful walls, tile floors, brightly colored rugs and art and beautifully renovated bathroom. There is a small kitchen with everything you need for cooking as much as you'd like (we cooked every meal here instead of eating out). When you arrive your first day Richard provides a little welcome snack of tasty treats from local sources He also tends to drop by each day with additional goodies, like homemade cupcakes and coffee cake, along with the daily refresh of eggs.
Richard mentioned that he enjoys Cid's market for fresh food, which was a great recommendation. We shopped there twice and picked up some outstanding wild caught fish to grill back at Casa Gallina. And the coffee provided from another local establishment, World Cup, is another added bonus. Again, you can tell that the focus is on exceptional quality and it shows from the coffee, to the homemade goodies, to the comfortable casas.
Knowing that we were interested in hiking and fishing, Richard provided a map highlighting some great hiking trails and recommended a local fishing store. We had three amazing days of hiking (starting out early so we could be back at the casa to enjoy the afternoon rains!) and we spent one day out with a fishing guide from Taos Fly Shop, which we were not surprised to find was as exceptional as everything else Richard had recommended. You can see the common theme here.
So, I will wrap up by saying we will be back and thank you Richard!

We loved Casa Gallina. Richard is a wonderful host. We sure appreciated the welcoming appetizers & wine and also the fresh eggs each morning. The Barred Rock Casa was perfect for two couples and nicely appointed with a great kitchen. Beautiful country setting and ideal location for exploring Taos. Richard also gave a helpful overview of the area with recommendations of sites to visit and great restaurants to enjoy. All and all a GREAT experience.

Room Tip: Barred Rock is perfect for two couples. Appreciated the washer and dryer too!

Great owner, gave a personal tour of the property and the beautiful house. Good coffee and other assorted goodies each day including FRESH eggs from the chickens directly behind the house. No worries about noise as I didn't hear the rooster except a couple times in the afternoon, and I'm a light sleeper. Wish the mattress had been firmer and a definite upgrade in the toilet paper is needed... :-) Great bathtub/shower-head combo, beautiful, well appointed kitchen and great room area.

We just returned from a week in New Mexico and staying at Casa Gallina (in the Leghorn Casita) was truly a wonderful experience. What a great place! It was so comfortable and very nicely decorated. Richard really goes out of his way to make his guests happy. The fresh eggs were delicious and we really enjoyed watching the chickens while we were sitting outside our casita. All the treats Richard provided were excellent (especially the yummy quinoa cookies). The gardens and landscaping are just beautiful. If you have the opportunity to go to Taos, stay here!

What great fortune to come to New Mexico and specifically to Taos for the first time and choose Casa Gallina. Richard has done a superb job with these properties and we second all these other positive comments on tripadvisor. We felt completely at home and at ease. Richard's recommendations on places, people, and restaurants were terrific. It was really hard to leave, we felt completely at home here. Thanks for the lovely visit.

We stayed in some amazing places across the USA last summer but this one remains the firm favourite for the entire family. Richard is a fabulous host, warm and welcoming. From the gorgeous snacks awaiting us, to the beautifully decorated and comfortable house, everything he does makes you feel at home (though our home isn't as gorgeous as this). Encouraged to help with the chickens (and enjoy their eggs) and to help ourselves from the vegetable patch, we fell in love with Taos - and especially this little corner. Richard recommended a supermarket with local produce, an amazing restaurant (the Love Apple) that gave us the best meal we had anywhere in the USA in 4 weeks (and at the best table, too). There just wasn't a single thing that could have been any lovelier than Richard made it for us. Thank you.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Barred Rock Adobe with 2 big double bedrooms - gorgeously decorated and really comf...
