Great service, eating al fresco, remarkable food in elegant, inviting, laid back atmosphere. We love New Mexico South Western food but after many such meals Mosaic in the historic La Fonda Hotel on the Plaza was a delightfully pleasant suprise diversification of fine, sophisticated, international cuisine.

We stayed in the La Fonda Hotel and decided to eat in this restaurant; what a great decision! I had the duck with the cherry sauce and I must say this was the best duck I have ever had; anywhere in the world. The medallions of duck were done perfectly; no fat; and were prepared over a bed of maple syrup infused mashed sweet potatoes; sounds unusual, well I thought so too but they were perfect. And, broccolini which I love. My wife had appetizers of fried calamari and a Caesar's salad; also very good. Wine choices were a bit limited but the waiter really knew his stuff and made excellent suggestions. And, we got a 15% discount for staying in the hotel. We understand that this restaurant is only 1 year old; or is under new management for that time period; not certain about this. We hope it makes it because we are stopping back in on our next trip there. Excellent service; suggestions; attention to detail; food; and value.

We took a tip from a friend and sought out the Mosaic in La Fonda de Taos Hotel ... the weather was right for outdoor dining but the patio was narrow & uncomfortable, Inside however, we enjoyed excellent ambiance; young but stylish/professional servers, and a visit from chef George Bartel that harmonized with the quality of the food. A good bottle of Zaccagnini Montepulciano d’Abruzzo opened the evening. This was an interesting, well-armed but supple country-style wine that worked well with what we ordered: I had a sirloin steak perfectly done Pittsburgh-style (darkly seared but rare in the very center) and Kathy had excellent shrimp/pasta that had an Alfredo sauce that walked the fine line between wimpy and in your face with poise and dignity. We'll be back ! Desert was superb.
