I loved the slower pace, easier parking and vibe of Taos after three days in Santa Fe. The shops were every pit as nice, the Plaza similar, just all on a more do-able scale. Santa Fe is a good sized Capital city, with thr traffic to match. Noy so in Taos.

Taos, New Mexico and Granada, Spain have similarities. The streets in Taos wander all over the place; so do the streets in Granada. The early conquistidores were from the Granada area and some of the early customs still show in Taos; e.g., the plaza, the streets, the custom of the summer fiestas, and the irrigation of property using ditch canals and gates.
It is the third oldest city in the US.
The plaza used to be well kept with flowers and plants. It has lost some of its charm and historical look.
It is a great place to visit due to the colorful shops and great art galleries. Read about the original Taos Arttists and then go in search of their homes and studios.

The town is within a 5 block walk with historic houses, places to eat at and shops. There is also a shopping plaza and a nice park. You can also see the cemetery where Kit Carson is buried.

Enjoyed our two night stay at Taos. We enjoyed the visitor's center; one of the nicest we had been in and employees very friendly. Drove around the Plaza but didn't get out and walk. It was crowded and traffic horrific.
