“Beautiful Scenery and A Special Woman”

Ranked #13 of 104 things to do in Taos
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed November 8, 2013

There are two ways to get to and from Taos to and from Santa Fe, New Mexico. The high road is more sparse and the main attractions are the small, interesting communities you go through. The low road goes along the upper Rio Grande River and, in my opinion much more scenic. If you take the low road be sure and stop at Sopyns Fruit Stand. Anna Sopyn is 95 years old (2013) and still works the many fruit orchards she and her husband planted many years ago. Besides the fruit she and her family make beautiful wreaths that make great door and table decorations. Plus, she's a delight to talk to.

We enjoyed the ride along the low road on the way to Taos from Santa Fe. Scenic, quiet with the added bonus of the fall colors just presenting themselves. Well worth the small amount of extra time it added to the trip. Fun road to navigate,

Good views, lots of twists and turns and a great sports car or motorcycle road. Plenty of places to stop and get a whiff of new Mexico. 90 minutes from Taos to Santa Fe with lots of good eateries along the way
