“A view of the Sange De Cristo mountains from the inside.”

Everyone one in the area is familiar with the Sange De Cristo mountains viewed from a distance. By taking the high road you'll see the mountains the the small towns that lie with in from a different perspective. If your travailing north and like BBQ, try Casa de Valdez as you approach Taos.

Maybe because I grew up in California I was super underwhelmed by this drive. We were confused for the first hour wondering if we were on the wrong road. There's a lot of trash and seems like people party a lot in the scenic turn offs. There are some pretty mountain shots. If ur from the desert or never seen mountains this would be a nice drive.

We drove the whole high road to Taos and we really enjoyed it. Made many stops along the road to see the many views, craftspeople and houses. Take your time, sit back and relax. Enjoy

We heard driving N to S was better, but needed to go S to N in order to fit in brunch at a place en route. So we went both ways, and didn't notice much of a difference. Both were really scenic, especially about 30 min from SF.

I drove the High Road north from Chimayo all the way to Taos after finding information about it online. I love scenic drives, and this is a great one! Perfect for rolling down the windows in the summertime and stopping occasionally to take a photo. The road is curvy in places, so not for the easily carsick. But everyone else should take this way up to Taos.
