This restaurant has very good food and prices. There are only a few tables so it could get crowded, but we were a bit late for lunch so there was only one other occupied table. If you like Mexican food you'll be pleased. It's very casual.

Taos has a lot of restaurants serving Mexican food. But, if you want great Mexican food at a reasonable price in Taos, don't miss La Cueva. It's recommended on Trip Advisor, but when we first saw it, we wondered out loud to each other if this could be the place. Then we wondered where we would park. Then, because it was cold out and the patio was not opened, we wondered where we would sit. Glad we took the effort to stop. Nice menu and great food. A constant flow of people. Some came from Trip Advisor, others we talked to were either locals or the place was recommended by locals. Good service, quaint atmosphere, though a bit tight. But hey, we went for the food and were glad we did.

We loved the food here! The only caveat was that they don't serve beer or alcohol. How can one have Mexican food without a beer?! But, we suffered through it, twice. The first night we had our beer before dinner. The second time we ate there we ate at lunch hour. The third time we ate there was for desert. The Key Lime Pie, when they have it, is spectacular!

Before going to Taos for a day trip from Santa Fe, I checked with Tripadvisor. La Cueva was highly rated. On arriving into town, we drove right past the restaurant, Not very impressive from the street. In wandering around the Plaza one of the shop owners mentioned it was her favorite.
The seating area had only about 8 two seater tables. There was outside patio area too. I understand there is another eating area but did not see it. I had the Chicken Mole Poblano Enchilada. I have had Mole in a lot of places. This was exceptional. My wife had the Chicken Enchiladas with Verde sauce. Excellent. The Verde sauce was not the typical bright green sauce. It was more like, for lack of better word, a gravy. Very flavorful and not too spicy. Slightly creamy. Really, really good.
The service was friendly and the food was delivered promptly. Definately a go back to when we are in Taos again. About $25.00 including drink and tip.

Went there on a recommendation from a Taos local. Tiny place, six small tables in one small room. Food is made to order. Ceviche is excellent. My wife had a cream corn soap with poblanas and I had chicken fajita with a mole sauce. both excellent. Service was friendly and attentive. No alcohol served so don't expect a margarita or cerveza.
