What a great little find this was...and I do mean LITTLE! We were lucky enough to snag one of the few tables on a Friday night. The soups are delish - we had a cream corn and a tortilla soup - my fave was the tortilla - great flavors. I had the special - local trout with shrimp that was fresh and perfectly cooked. We left with a great taste in our mouth and sadly no room for dessert. They do not have an alcohol license, but the margs at El Camino behind it across the road are the perfect end to a great night of food! Staff was very friendly and attentive. No faults with this place. Will for sure be back to try something new!

We went to La Cueva for dinner and sat at the small room in the main building. The room has only three tables! It feels like you are visiting family. (They do have a nice patio, and a second, bigger room). The place has such a vibrant, positive vibe! The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The customers would talk to each other across the tables sharing opinions about the food. We are quite experienced with Mexican food, but this was among the best we've had. The tortilla soup was one of the best we have tasted, very rich, but subtle and sophisticated. The banana-wrapped pork special was excellent, as were the tacos. For desert we chose the mexican chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream -- simple, but moist and flavorful. This is a very happy place, a true find that captures the spirit of Taos and NM.

Cueva in Spanish means cave, and this tiny restaurant IS a cozy cave! However, there's a pleasant, mostly covered patio to enjoy on warm days. And, then there's the food...it's not Tex-Mex but authentic Mexican, beautifully presented by well-trained staff. In fact, an attorney from Peru travels to Taos most summers to wait tables and enjoy New Mexico. Ask if he's there when you visit! The only draw-back is waiting for your meal to arrive, but the wait is worth it! We'll be returning to Taos this summer and look forward to La Cueva's wonderful food. No alcohol is served - not a biggee.

This is what this town used to be like. Small house that's been painted over by the neighbor's kids. Only a few tables, so not likely for big crowds unless out on the patio. Service, excellent. Food, authentic and excellent. We tried the special, but you can tell, these guys can deliver an entire menu that's delish and you'll go back for more. Reasonably priced, so get over there soon before this town or the Taos crowd screws this place up.

This place looks like a tiny hole in the wall, but the food is a surprise of unique flavor and creativity. The service was very good as well. I had the special of the day, which was a poblano pepper stuffed with beef cooked in pear, apple and spices. It was topped with a chipotle sauce and sprinkled with pomegranate. There were a few other customers there that day, all repeat customers. This is a gem.
