There's a lot going on at the KTAOS Solar Center. It's a radio station. It's a bar and restaurant. It's a live music venue, featuring bands from around the world.

The view of the mountains is fantastic. (I understand why one of the commercials for the bar uses the line "come and drink in the view." Very clever.) In the big outdoor concert area in the back, there is REAL GRASS (green and lush), quite exciting in the desert.

The restrooms are very nice (clean and spacious) and you don't have to go through the restaurant to get to them. There are to the right, about halfway in when you come through the front door.

The restaurant doesn't open until late afternoon (4pm, I think). Happy hour is from 4-6 and appetizers and burgers are less expensive than usual.

Free WiFi, but I didn't see an electrical outlet in the restaurant when I went there to use the internet.

One of the best music venues in Taos, with the best view, too! And the food is very good, as well, especially for bar food. Great for all ages.

We live only a mile away, so this bar/music venue is place we visit frequently. Just a couple of things to note: the music rarely starts earlier than a half hour late. It must be something about the elevation! If the act is doing a sound check at the time they were supposed to start, the music will start 30-45 minutes later. The wait staff is friendly when you get their attention, but be patient. They also are affected by the elevation. I always get the draft beer, but last night ordered one of their infused vodka drinks. At $8 for 10 ounces, I should have tasted all three ingredients, watermelon infused vodka, triple sec and lime juice. Not only did I only taste lime juice, the drink was overall sour and no alcohol was detected. Save your money. Drink draft beer.

the solar center is a great building, with one of the best views around of the mountains. the atmosphere is chill, and the outdoor area is fantastic! the music venue is great for dancing, lots of room and a decent wooden dance floor. if only there were some good music there other than bad pop music and white boy reggae.

the service is average (which for taos puts it in the top 10%), and the folks behind the bar are not very knowledgeable. i once ordered a campari and soda there, and i was brought a rum and coke. (the bar person translated campari into bacardi, and soda into coke, all without asking me).

nonetheless, the solar center is a great place to go for an evening drink with folks from out of town, it does provide a taste of taos.

This space is wonderful for a beer with a beautiful view and great sandwiches. The Taos BRAWL (women's arm wrestling for charity) occurred while we were there. Go Whiplashes! Enjoy a little of the local culture for a good cause.
