“Wonderful new discovery!”

We were lamenting the loss of Joseph"s Table when we came upon El Meze on our recent Taos trip. What to say; this is a wonderful place. We met Fred (owner and chef) earlier in the day before the rains came but eating inside was lovely and cozy. The service is friendly and casuual and our meal was filled with farm fresh flavors just dee-lish-ous. We particularly loved the watermelon salad with mint and feta and the most yummy home made pasta.
We will return for more! Bob and Sher Boulder, Co.

“Better than reviews can describe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2010

Sometimes you find a place that is just too good to be true - for us El Meze was that place. Driving up, we weren't sure what to expect , but once seated on the patio with the mountains in the distance and the torches lit, we knew we were in a special place. Our waiter was helpful and guided us through the menu choices. We started with the Chicharrones since you can't get them many places - cooked just right, served hot, and with a sauce to die for. Next up, tortilla soup and salad - both perfect. Finally, the best Chile Relleno's we have ever had. Great food, great wine, the sun setting spectacularly - you can't ask for much more.

“Most definitely choose this place!”

Absolutely awesome place! If not for tripadvisor, I would not have stopped based upon the property, but definitely worth it. Fred does a great job as does his wife and the entire staff. We ate there on Friday night, June 18th. I would recommend reservations. There is a lovely patio for dining witha great view! We tried the obligatory relleno as our first course. Fresh, spicy but not too hot. Wonderful chili flavor. Also, the staff is highly informed and helpful in wine selection, as I was unfamiliar with the different Spanish and South American wines offered. But what they suggested was definitely spot on. Our second course was the tuna carpaccio. I don't know how you get fresh tuna in New Mexico, but Fred once again was right on. As a main course, we shared the chicken. Rustic cut and Mediterranean style. Cooked to perfection with the right herbs and a great broth. The grilled bread finishes it off just right. For dessert, we tried the lavender creme brulee which again was wonderful. You can't go wrong at this place unless you don't go at all!

“Creative and Fantastic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2010

We had the buffalo tamales - an inventive and caliente variation on the Southwestern standard - and the simple and elegant chicken dinner. Both were outstanding. A romantic litle restaurant on the north edgeof Taos with attentive staff and the art form the gallery next door drifts onto the walls of the restaurant. We had all three desserts on the menu and found them exquisite- creme brulee with lavender, chocolate souffle, and the napoleon. Oh - forgot to mention the deep-fired olive appetizer. Looking forward to my next trip to Taos.
