“I've never eaten a more amazing meal in my 56 years of life.”
Reviewed July 23, 2009

My wife and I recently had one of the two or three most astounding meals of our lives at El Meze in Taos, New Mexico. Fred Mueller is an artist of the most rarefied kind, and our palates crave more of his wizardry.

The standard-issue "star" rating system can't reflect our gratitude for this meal.

“I am so glad our first choice was closed...”
Reviewed July 13, 2009

The restaurant we intended to go to was closed, on a Saturday night no less. So we went with 2nd choice from list from our B&B. And I could not be happier. El Meze is worth going out of your way for, and if you are in or near Taos, it is only a few minutes to the north. The ambiance was very pleasant, small, cozy, and quiet. The service was excellent and friendly, without hovering. But the best part was the food, absolutely wonderful. The Jamon Serrano starter, with ham, fruit and cheese was wonderful (see their menu for a far better description). The buffalo tamale was wonderful, with just the right amount of spice without over powering the taste. And the deserts were wonderful. We had the cardamon doughnuts and lavender creme brule (we couldn't make up our minds). Both we simply delicious. And at the recommendation of the hostess, we tried a new Spanish wine that is now one of our favorites.
We cannot wait until our next trip to Taos so we can enjoy this restaurant again.

“BEST FOOD on the SOUTH WEST slopes”
Reviewed June 17, 2009

El Meze is a wonderful restaurant for its food, location, and ambiance.
After living for 24 years in the Boulder CO, we discovered this fantastic restaurant in the small town of Taos. The chef has a extraordinary sense for mixing tastes and flavor in his european-spanish-morocan cuisine.
And his partner has the BEST dessert EVER!
A real treat for any connoisseurs for a very reasonable price in a wonderful setting and where you can talk to each other without yelling (it seems in the fashion to have very noisy ambiance lately in the US restaurants)
And if you are not convince to go there, I am French and I know what I am talking about when it is about good food... Our dear italian friend who we invited there told us: "This is the best restaurant I have ever experiences in the US" he lives in Boulder since the 70's.

“Fabulous Food in Taos, NM!”
Reviewed June 7, 2009

El Meze Restaurant- located at the El Torreon Hacienda
1017 Paseo del Pueblo Norte, El Prado, NM 87571
P - [--]

(El Prado is just a few miles north of Taos in an historic building) This restaurant's food reflects the Moorish influence on Spanish and therefore northern New Mexican cuisine. Chef Frederick Muller turns out masterpieces that are both delicious and interesting. Our group of four had several of the tapas and entrees and each was outstanding. A tamale of buffalo meat and red chili was perfection and the buffalo ribs were wonderful. Annette, who works the front of the house, also makes a divine lavender creme brulee. The wine list is limited, but all the wines are good. The service was excellent and all the personnel knowledgeable about the menu.

“Best food on our tour of New Mexico”
Reviewed April 12, 2009

This is a cozy spot with a casual atmosphere and excellent, innovative food. The prices are reasonable and the service is great without having the server hover over you. They have a nice wine list. The menu changes frequently. The owner is the chef and is always in the kitchen. He has owned some other great Taos restaurants in the past.
