“Fabulous Food in Taos, NM!”

El Meze Restaurant- located at the El Torreon Hacienda
1017 Paseo del Pueblo Norte, El Prado, NM 87571
P - [--]

(El Prado is just a few miles north of Taos in an historic building) This restaurant's food reflects the Moorish influence on Spanish and therefore northern New Mexican cuisine. Chef Frederick Muller turns out masterpieces that are both delicious and interesting. Our group of four had several of the tapas and entrees and each was outstanding. A tamale of buffalo meat and red chili was perfection and the buffalo ribs were wonderful. Annette, who works the front of the house, also makes a divine lavender creme brulee. The wine list is limited, but all the wines are good. The service was excellent and all the personnel knowledgeable about the menu.

“Best food on our tour of New Mexico”
Reviewed April 12, 2009

This is a cozy spot with a casual atmosphere and excellent, innovative food. The prices are reasonable and the service is great without having the server hover over you. They have a nice wine list. The menu changes frequently. The owner is the chef and is always in the kitchen. He has owned some other great Taos restaurants in the past.

“Fantastic--an authentic, delicious take on all the cultural influences on New Mexican cuisine!”
Reviewed March 26, 2009

We were looking for one really good, special meal in Taos and we definitely found it. The chef/owner is serious about exploring the traditions and tastes that go into local cuisine; and in Taos, that means a mix of Native American/Mexican/Spanish/Moorish/Moroccan. Beautifully prepared food, really fresh, with incredible attention to detail and explosive flavors. Not to mention that all the staff are warm, knowledgeable, and believe in what they're giving you. Plus it's in a 150 year old restored hacienda...what more could we have asked for?

“The best meal I've had in a long time.”
Reviewed February 19, 2009

We snuck into this restaurant with a last minute reservation on Valentine's evening, not knowing what to expect. The pricing on the menu outside the restaurant was slightly higher than we typically spend, our expectations at that point were cautiously optimistic. The atmosphere was warm and inviting albeit slightly cramped - but this could well have been a result of an overbooked Valentine's Day. I had the Fresh Pasta, my boyfriend had the Trout. We were both left speechless by the freshness, presentation, and taste of our dishes. The pasta is flown in fresh weekly and gracefully flavored with garlic mushrooms, green beans and fresh greens.
Our only complaint was the short pour on wine. When we go back, and we definitely will, we will order a full bottle instead of individual glasses.

“Fred's Back and better than ever!”
Reviewed January 4, 2009

We've eaten at El Meze several times, and it never, ever disappoints. The menu is different for Taos--delicious Mediterranean inspired dishes--and wine list inspired and well-priced. Outstanding menu choices include the fried olives stuffed with bleu cheese, buffalo short ribs (awesome!), lamb chops, grilled trout and killer desserts. You can either order a traditional multi-course dinner, or graze "tapas style". The service is outstanding, and hostess Annette is very attentive. I've gone there for a girls-night-out, for romantic dinners and, with my husband and other couples. It's always been outstanding.

The site is worth a visit in and of itself. It is in one of Taos' oldest haciendas. The two dining rooms are painted in warm, vibrant colors with artwork by some of Taos' best artists.

A really great spot! I can't wait to go back.
