Taos Country Inn
Ranked #15 of 23 Taos B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 15, 2012

We loved our stay at this B&B. It's beautifully kept and filled with New Mexican pottery, carvings, knick-knacks and artwork. Yolanda, the inn-keeper, is a treasure. She's a super-sweet lady and also knows everything there is to know about Taos and the surrounding area, so provides excellent recommendations for everything from restaurants to the best place to buy souvenirs and ice-cream. The location is great––close enough to town to get in and out quickly, but far enough away to escape the crowds. We took lovely walks and enjoyed seeing the "real" Taos. The rooms are spacious, the grounds beautiful and the star-filled sky beyond compare. We'll definitely be returning!

Room Tip: The Alejandro is smaller than the other rooms (definitely cozy) but a sweet get-away far from the ma...

This B&B has a very special touch to it. Yolanda has really given her accommodation a feel for the area with her artwork, pottery and nic naks. This B&B is set away from the main shops and galleries, but is only 5mins by car. Being away from the main strip means you get a great feeling for the area. It is very peaceful. Having grown up here Yolanda was able to help us with her local knowledge for the best places to visit both culturally and dining.

Unfortunately for the time of year we were there the Pueblo de Taos was closed.

Thank you for sharing with us Yolanda, you are a wonderful lady.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely.

We stayed at this B&B in October. I made my reservations online and from a calendar provided chose the Alejandro room for privacy ( we don't like traipsing through main living areas in someone else's house, so the outside private entrance was what we were looking for). When we arrived, Yolanda was very friendly and let us know right away that because we reserved online we didn't really get the room we reserved but she would "do us a favor" and give us a "larger, nicer room". We politely listened to her talk for several minutes about the accomplishments of each of her four children and then were shown, down a long narrow hallway and down some steps to one of the lower level rooms. It was dark, and a little creepy and the "patio" out the back door had something to be desired, broken tiles, a couple of white plastic chairs, cigarette butts strewn around, a few chards of broken glass. The windows did not open from the inside - we went outside to pull them open to get some air and I've attached picture of this, along with the mold in the shower in case someone wants to dispute this. We did not argue, but left the next day as we weren't into sleeping on the sagging bed or putting up with the ambiance for another night. Taos is a tough place to find a decent place to stay. Oh, the other thing is that you have to drive out into the boonies, down a long driveway with a lot of trailer trash between the Inn and town. She didn't offer to refund our second night and we didn't ask - we were happy to move on. Fruit flies covered the plate of melo and grapes and it was apparent that the cheese platter had been set out more than one day in a row. The egg entree was ok but too spicy and there really wasn't anything else to eat - so I don't know where the "hearty" breakfasts were.

Room Tip: I think the Alejandro room is in a good spot due to exterior entrance, but don't count on gettin...

It was wonderful to stay on the edge of Taos, away from all the noise of the Plaza. Yolanda makes delicious, hearty breakfasts every day; we never had to eat lunch. She is a native of Taos, and makes you feel like a member of her own family. Yolanda is extraordinarily knowledgeable about area restaurants, activities, and museums; she is always willing to share with about the good and bad of Taos, for your benefit as a visitor. The property is lovely. Every room is a massive suite with private entrance and private bath. This is the very, very best place to stay in Taos.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Deveaux Room. Very nice, kiva fireplace, large, quiet.

Away from the bustle of the Plaza, Taos Country Inn sits at the end of a country road on the edge of a pasture with a perfect view of spectacular sunsets. Yolanda is the perfect hostess making sure everthing is perfect. The breakfast room decor alone is worth a visit (I'm not kidding).

We stayed here for 3 days and thoroughly enjoyed out visit. Not only is Yolanda, (the owner) a genuinely beautiful person, but she extends her hospitality well beyond ordinary measures, making you feel like close friends and family, helping with any request. We loved our room, which was actually 2 rooms. I believe it was called Rivera. While not perfect in every regard as some other reviews have noted, it had that comfortable familiar feeling that gave you the sense you were staying in a real HOME away from HOME. It was nice being in a private setting while in Taos. Lots of wildlife and tranquil grounds to observe around the Inn with a nice rushing stream bordering the property.

The only limitation which was easy to work around was that to use the internet you needed to be at the front of the Inn in the dining room/social room, or front porch to gain wireless access. Internet is not available in the rooms. We met some wonderful other guests that were a pleasure to visit with in the morning and the evenings. Seems as though that those who find this Inn are all pleasant people which says something about the energy in and around the Inn which makes Taos such a magical place.

Thank you Yolanda!
