“Awesome band”
Reviewed October 7, 2012 via mobile

We did not stay at this hotel, but ate next door at Doc Martins (which was very good). The bar at the Taos Onn was packed. There was a very good band playing on this sat night. I would recommend seeking this place out on a weekend night. This is a 45+ crowd, some dancing, etc.

I stayed here for two nights while on an organized bicycle trip through New Mexico. The rooms are all different - but I think all have fireplaces (we didn't need one while we were there) and really comfortable beds. The staff was wonderful, and the happy hour is very popular. It's right off the Plaza and not too far from the Taos Pueblo. Loved the stay.

The Historic Taos Inn is an essential stop for a vacation to Taos. We had a fantastic lunch of authentic New Mexican cuisine in the immaculate grounds of the hotel. It is apparent that the staff is intentional about preserving the feeling people seek when traveling to Taos, NM.

Above average/great: location, fastidious cleanliness, colonial ambience, quiet, restful bed, evening floor shows--the flamenco gruop was impressive!

So-So: they have no vending machines, no water fountains for drinking, one must get ice at the bar, and its definitely not a place children would like. There is no convenience store close by altho McD was about 4 easy blocks on foot.

Below expectations: no coffee machine in rooms, front desk personnel not always helpful, Doc Martin restaurant overpriced & hohum, no free breakfast (given room price, there should have been), and the web site says free wifi in rooms "but not in the 200's" where my room was. And it's not true wifi, you need a phone cord. You can connect in the noisy lobby--there are a couple of electrical points but the only good time for this was early when they were running the vacuums. In late afternoon it is crowded with guests

The AC was noisy & they didnt show me the controls.

The heater in the bathrm woulldnt turn off & the temp in there became too hot. They fixed it but it happened again

Don't miss the Millicent Rogers Museum!

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the staff & storage areas, they are noisy starting at 6 am. Also i d...

The rooms are all different and different sizes. The property is older but very well maintained. The location is wonderful. You can walk all over town. It has a nice restaurant and bar. I would suggest a room on the large grassy patio area. Avoid the two story building; the downstairs rooms are noisy because you can hear people walking above you.

Room Tip: It consists of several buildings. Avoid lower rooms in the two level building.

If you are looking for old-world charm, you could hardly do better than the Taos Inn. I've stayed here several times over the past few years, and will keep coming back. The location is very central, only a few minutes walk from the central plaza and many good restaurants and shops. (There is reserved parking behind the Inn.) The Adobe Bar, which is essentially the Inn's lobby area, is one of Taos' primary gathering spots, offers live music and unmatched people-watching. The rooms are sparsely but tastefully furnished, many with fireplaces. Their website offers a nice layout of the hotel, allowing you to choose a specific room from several options. I've only stayed in the courtyard rooms, and found them to be wonderful each time.

The attached restaurant, Doc Martins, is also excellent.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms in the main building if you plan to turn in early, as you may have to contend with m...

This is our go-to for margaritas and nachos for happy hour. The Margarita selection is extensive, has something for everyone and the food is pretty good for bar food. The decor is historic and there is typically a live band playing every night. This is a must for Taos. It is centrally located and a great place to meet people. Only drawback is the service can be pretty slow depending on your server. Also, double-check your tab if you go during happy hour (sometimes the staff forgets about it, nothing malicious on their part). This is a pretty good place for tourists and locals alike and pretty much sums up the Taos atmosphere in my opinion. Never stayed in the rooms but I hear they are pretty nice.
