We didn't get to go inside the house or museum because it doesn't open until 10am. I was worth the stop anyway just to look at the outside of the house, read the signs and imagine old Kit relaxing in the courtyard.

Literally found this little gem by accident. An informative History Channel movie and an additional hour to look through the museum and I gained a new appreciation. Whether you thought him "good" or "bad", it was an interesting and hard life he lived. Worth the time if you are inclined

We did not know this museum was in Taos, but I couldn't wait to get in when we found it ! I have always loved the West and the history of it. There is a movie with the background on KIt Carson's life that lasts approximately 20 minutes, then you can stroll about in the house he lived in. I found it fascinating!!!!!! Now I want to read more about Kit Carson. Hard to believe what an important role he played in settling the west. The cost was $4, how can you beat it!

This humble adobe structure was home to one of this countries "premier" frontiersman, his wife and his numerous offspring for a number of years. The film they show covers his early life and is interesting. The part of Kit Carson is played by his grandson (or great grandson). He wasn't cast for the part because of his acting ability, but he does physically resemble Carson.

The docent who was on duty during our visit was even more informative than the video. She spent quite awhile telling interesting personal information about Carson, his accomplishments and the history of his residence.

A plus . . . they have a smashed penny machine!
