“Thought this was a nice hotel”
Reviewed May 18, 2012

Little confused by others comments as this seemed a nice hotel. Room was modern, typical of other remodeled HIE's. Everything was clean, nice breakfast offered. We were pleased with our stopover.

Twenty-five years ago Holiday Inn carried a tag that "the best surprise is no surprise." The HI Express in Santa Rosa is nothing unique, but with the odd assortment of hotels along old Rt. 66, it was nice to find a place the was reliable and comfortable. Santa Rosa NM is far from just about anywhere but I-40. Most of the other hotels between Albuquerque and Amarillo are fifty years old or older and should have been torn down twenty years ago. Instead you are enticed with "memories of Rt. 66" and catchy names that don't come close to describing the slums that most of these hotels have become. The HI Express in Santa Rosa is classic HI Express except that they are too far from anywhere to provide a daily newspaper.

We were on our way home from our trip to Arizona and decided we would stop off to rest early. Santa Rosa doesn't have much, but they did have some small restaurants and a few hotels. We found the Holiday Inn after getting off of I-40 while driving up Historic Route 66. This Holiday Inn was clean and well maintained on the outside which prompted us to walk in and check their rates and availability. The lobby was very nice and clean and the staff was helpful and even recommended area places to dine and restaurants that delivered. There was only the Lobby entrance which I like because they can watch in coming traffic. The rate was great to say the least especially considering you get a free hot breakfast in the morning with eggs, omelets, sausage gravy, along with cereals, oatmeal, bagels, and juices. They had a great indoor pool and even a pool table. Our room was clean, very large, and great for our family of 5. There were 2 queens and a fold out couch. Beds were really comfortable and I didn't hear a peep out of our neighbors. Checking out in the morning was easy and they even let my daughter run back up after she thought she had forgotten her sweatshirt with no problems. If you are coming to this area or just passing through and need a place to get a great nights rest and a hot breakfast, I would recommend this Hoilday Inn.

This is the oldest and most run down HIE Ive ever stayed in (Im a Platinum member). The rooms are way past their best in terms of decor, this is one hotel in need of a total makevoer.

The reason why I haven't voted it down any more is because the staff are very friendly, and because this hotel is situated next to a freeway to serve inter-state commuters as oppossed to those looking for a break/holiday in not so interesting Santa Rosa.

Fit for purpose, value for money, but very much at the budget end of motel/hotels.

Santa Rosa is not a tourist destination despite its marketing to attempt to make it as such. This was not as nice as other Holiday Inn Express locations that I've stayed at. The rooms are a bit dingy and dated. We had someone else's hair around the edge of the tub, a loose tile in the bathroom floor and the toilet paper holder came out of the wall when we tried to use it. The bathroom in the lobby is a dump. The "game room" had a free pool table and foosball table which were free but still pretty beat up. The breakfast area was cramped and off in a corner.

Granted, Santa Rosa is not a tourist destination. The hotel exists almost entirely to serve interstate drivers on their way to somewhere else. But the hotel makes no pretenses of being anything but a one-night stay. First of all, the hotel has only two entrances, making it extremely inconvenient to unload bags, especially in winter with snow, ice,and blowing wind.

I wanted to unwind with my kids after a long drive. The pool and jacuzzi were adequate and clean, but the atmosphere was sterile and non-inviting. Saw a game room with pool table and foozball table. The former had but one queue and a broken rack, while the latter had no handles.

The room was definitely just a stopover room, no amenities. Clean and tidy, but not inviting. Breakfast was good and plentiful.

The wall were thin and you could hear a lot of out side noise. Even though it had what looked like a very nice pillow top bed, it has one of the hardest beds I have ever slept on. The staff was very friendly and confident and the room was clean.
