If you are in no hurry and are not particularly hungry, then the Denny's in Santa Rosa, NM, is an ideal place to hang your hat---for a long, long time...The restaurant is situated next door to a Hampton Inn and was the only restaurant in the immediate vicinity, and rather at the end of a somewhat commercial district. When we arrived for dinner, most of the seating was occupied; but not many patrons were actually eating (that should have been a clue). The wait staff was friendly enough, but few and far--very far--between. It was more than 15 minutes before our order was even taken; a cup of hot water for tea was long cold and gone before our dinner finally arrived---over 45 minutes later. No offer was made to heat up the water during that time. My husband ordered soup and a sandwich; myself a salad. (Not too hard, right?) When the plates arrived, the waitress announced that there was no soup---she simply stated that they had run out a while back. One would think the waitress might come over and apologize beforehand that the soup was gone, but would a substitute do? But, we were so happy to get our meals (we had been driving for 12 hours; were tired and hungry) we certainly did not want to WAIT another 45 minutes for something different. Again, no offers to refill our drinks, after having sat there for an hour by this time. It was not only US, but other patrons were depleting their beverages as well while waiting for their orders to either be taken or filled; it was almost amusing to observe people running out of conversation after half an hour or so.
Unfortunately, I cannot speak from experience to recommend any other restaurant in Santa Rosa---but next visit we will definitely make other arrangements!

Staff was really friendly and food was nice and hot when we got it. No wait time, walked in and was seated right away.

All three orders messed up. Cheese on omelet and potatos when not wanted (lactose intolerant). BLT with avocado on sent back twice due to missing ingredients. Both which took a long time to fix. Missing toast and coffee refills while waitress talked with some "celebrity " in the corner on the other side of the restaurant. Refills and sandwich (that was left out) courtesy of another waitress.

I have never written a really negative review and usually choose to concentrate on the positives rather than the downside. This had to be our most terrible experience in a restaurant and we are seniors. No one was there to take our names - that should have been an indicator. People were leaving after waiting for a long time - even people seated and having ordered, were leaving. Even after being seated, you had to wait forever to get your order in. That was the fastest part. After our meal arrived, my husband's chili was dried up completely, all cheese etc. gone. My skillet dinner had dried up chicken and my salad arrived after the meal as all the salad bowls were not available due to dirty dishes piling up. Service was unfriendly and inefficient. Can't believe this was an exception as it was off-season and during the week. Something wrong here. Everyone was very unhappy with the service. However, we did try Denny's later in another location and it was very good.

Nothing great about this place compared to any other Denny's. We went there assuming it was kids eat free but when we got our check we found out it was only on certain days of the week. The waitress when ahead and gave us some type of discount and that was real nice of her.
