If you are in no hurry and are not particularly hungry, then the Denny's in Santa Rosa, NM, is an ideal place to hang your hat---for a long, long time...The restaurant is situated next door to a Hampton Inn and was the only restaurant in the immediate vicinity, and rather at the end of a somewhat commercial district. When we arrived for dinner, most of the seating was occupied; but not many patrons were actually eating (that should have been a clue). The wait staff was friendly enough, but few and far--very far--between. It was more than 15 minutes before our order was even taken; a cup of hot water for tea was long cold and gone before our dinner finally arrived---over 45 minutes later. No offer was made to heat up the water during that time. My husband ordered soup and a sandwich; myself a salad. (Not too hard, right?) When the plates arrived, the waitress announced that there was no soup---she simply stated that they had run out a while back. One would think the waitress might come over and apologize beforehand that the soup was gone, but would a substitute do? But, we were so happy to get our meals (we had been driving for 12 hours; were tired and hungry) we certainly did not want to WAIT another 45 minutes for something different. Again, no offers to refill our drinks, after having sat there for an hour by this time. It was not only US, but other patrons were depleting their beverages as well while waiting for their orders to either be taken or filled; it was almost amusing to observe people running out of conversation after half an hour or so.
Unfortunately, I cannot speak from experience to recommend any other restaurant in Santa Rosa---but next visit we will definitely make other arrangements!
