Fite Ranch Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #2 of 2 San Antonio B&B and Inns
Reviewed October 5, 2009

Plan on staying here if you are in the area or if you just want a place to relax. Linda does a wonderful job making you feel (better than) at home. The views are spectacular and the ambience neighborly and restful.

My husband and I stayed at Fite Ranch B&B for a weekend because it was convenient to Trinity Site, which we were visiting (it's open just the first Sat. of Apr. and Oct.). The photos on the web site made it look colorful and comfortable, and it was. But the accommodations are also larger. Each of the four "rooms" we saw are actually suites. Each has a full kitchen, sitting room, bedroom (and sometimes an additional small bed in another room).
The place was very clean and had everything you could need, from tons of towels to a well-stocked fridge full of basic breakfast foods plus a homemade burrito. Though it's not a "gourmet" breakfast, as you might get at a more expensive, more urban B&B, it's typical local New Mexican breakfast, plus all the usual continental stuff, like cereals, muffins, fresh fruit. You won't go hungry!
The Evelyn Fite room has a large walk-in shower, AC, and wood stove (which wasn't hooked up yet). All rooms share a long portal (porch) in what was originally a coal miners' boarding house (though you'd never know it from the cozy, colorful renovations). The ranch sits on property that was once a coal-mining town of 500. Today it's alone on the top of a mesa with great views.
The only caution is the county road that provides access to the ranch. We left on a rare rainy day, and part of the road had been eroded away, so we were glad to have a 4WD Subaru. Most days, any car would have no trouble, but you are out in the country, so drive carefully on the clay/sand road if it's wet.
Linda, the owner, is very personable and welcoming, but after you're checked in and settled, you might not see her except for burrito deliveries. This is a place you could spend a weekend or a week. There are plenty of historic and scenic areas to explore within 2.5 hrs (Wt. Sand Dunes). Or you could just hang out and enjoy the quiet and sunsets.

Fite Ranch was a real treat. Clean, beautiful rooms with kitchens and lots of New Mexico charm. Wonderful hostess and a great front proch to watch the birds from. Quiet and peaceful. A place we will definitely go back to.
